Re: I sure woud of liked to owned this back in my day

The hood ornament and hood deflector with the lady silhouettes is pure 1970's classic. Makes me remember my youth and riding across country with my father who was a long haul trucker back in that time.

Is that some sort of beer tap handle on the shift lever? If so, I'm digging it as well.

Time capsule that makes me smile looking at it. Thanks for posting.

I wish "Longhornman" the guy who still holds the record for postings was still on this forum ,,he could tell us many things about this truck" He knew the Longhorns inside out and outside in.. Anyone heard from him in awhile?

Re: I sure woud of liked to owned this back in my day

I never had a Longhorn. I did have a '69 C/30 pickup, so a Stepside. This one looks like a great survivor.

You got me curious GOPAPA, how would one find out the most prolific posters on the site? I went to the Member List and wasn't able to find Longhornman.

As far as I know ,there is no where and never has been a place on this forum that list members who are most prolific ..as to knowledge about our trucks.

If you a meaning post count.. then a moderator will answer this question better than I ..
If I remember this correctly ..Longhorn Man left the forum when he got married

Re: I sure woud of liked to owned this back in my day

nice looking truck in the ad, what's your questions?

not a whole lot of difference between the longhorn and longbed other than wheelbase and bed length..

133" over 127" regular longbed wheelbase
all have wood beds
some badged, some weren't, I have one of each
nothing on spid other than wheelbase indicates it

decent article http://www.longhorntrucks.freeservers.com/

several threads on them, I posted mine recently in this one..

ochre is Z84 Custom Sport Truck, red is base model

both farm finds, unmodified / unmolested original equipment..

see SPIDs for other options, hope that helps

Re: I sure woud of liked to owned this back in my day

I may have mentioned, but I bought mine in the beginning to part out. I put on the back lot for a few months and I couldn't do it. It has turned out to be one of my all time favorite trucks.

GMC's didn't get the Longhorn moniker as I understand it. The frames are the same frame the 133" one ton used. Mine still has the part number stenciled on the side but I haven't checked it.

Ok, now I got two I really like ..I had my eyes on cuteness with short beds more than what will haul a load when younger,,,I recognize the long beds more now to how much more useable they are more than ever..

It is dark yellow. Its a 72 C20 Cheyenne that I picked up east of Portland, Oregon. The people I bought it from knew the farmer that bought it in 1972. It has 58,000 miles and is pretty intact. I was pretty impressed that the jack and tire iron were still there and the radio hasn't been hacked out of the dash. It looks to have been painted 20+ years ago. I'm pretty happy to have scored it. I thought it was a scam when I saw the listing. I lucked out and scored a pretty good deal.

That had to be a barn find (meaning that it was stored in a barn or garage it's whole life ) I lived just 50-60 miles down the Columbia River from you for over 65 years and I know that this one you have is a very rare taken care of truck .. with all the salt air coming in from the ocean and the rainy days Oregon has in that part of the state ,I know what I am talking about.

Very nice truck ,,good for you ,,
