Re: Front brake hoses too short for 2.5" drop spindles?

I know I'm dredging up an old thread but I've run into the same issue with a few added bonuses. I have a 71 c10, 4 inch drop and the stock hoses are tighttttt. Went to O'Reillys and the BrakeBest BH380712 & BH380713 are the exact same length as my originals, which is just under 12 inches. Stopped at NAPA and the guy spent 5 minutes searching, gave up and said it was impossible. Went to hose shop, they said they couldn't get the fitting for the caliper end but if I brought them my old hoses they could cut the fitting and silver solder it onto another fitting then make the hose. WTF? Maybe just me but how in the world can this be so difficult? Does anyone know of an index of lines where the fitting and length can be looked up? I haven't explored ordering online customs just yet but maybe that's where I'm headed, any suggestions?

Re: Front brake hoses too short for 2.5" drop spindles?

Well, I'm glad thsi came up as I have a set of Mc Gaughys 2 1/2 drop spindles to go on my 72 and replaced the front brake hoses with originals 2/3 years ago. From what I'm reading in this thread my hoses will be too short so I'd bette get ahead of the curve and be preppared with longer ones when the install happens. I bought Raybestos BH380713 ( 12.8 inches ) and BH380712 (12.6 inches ) so looks like I'll need the longer ones.

Re: Front brake hoses too short for 2.5" drop spindles?

So chasing old links and recommendations here is what I found -

As I mentioned earlier the BrakeBest hoses I checked are too short, I could not find another off the shelf hose at the parts store. I did not pursue the FH03 lines at Summit as they need an adapter. I did see that GMC Pauls has the C20 hoses but there was no length listed on the website, no answer when I called.

Chased the brake hoses unlimited link and found they are selling 2 inch longer lines on ebay. I placed an order and will update when I get them. For now I ground off the locating pins on my existing lines, this allows them to rotate and you can get just enough to not stretch them tight.

Re: Front brake hoses too short for 2.5" drop spindles?

I think I recall running across this thread years ago when I was having trouble finding front brake hoses. Good info here.

For my 72 C10 with 2.5” drop spindles and 1 cut coil (4.5” drop) I used 1972 C20 brake hoses. They fit well, no rubbing. I did have to file the fitting were the hose mounts to the bracket on the A arm to make it fit better, but it wasn’t bad.
At the time I ordered them from LMC truck, part # was 34-4415, but I’m sure they could be found at NAPA, or another local auto parts store. If not I have ordered from GMC Pauls recently, and been very happy.
