Finally got me a donor truck for the 69 stepside

It's a 1992 Short step GMC with factory 350 and four speed auto, runs great looks pretty good. I plan on taking every usable part and putting it in the 69, right now I am thinking engine, trans, tbi, fuel tank and bed, maybe even rearend and leaf spring setup, also probably the newer stepside bed. The best part is it only cost me a grand.

Good deal and good idea. I really like those new step beds on the older trucks

Re: Finally got me a donor truck for the 67 stepside

Sorry about the title I fat fingered it.. The truck is a 69 not 67.

What else would you guys do with the donor. Could I possibly use the a/c stuff.

Where do I start?

The donor is in good shape although there is 160000 miles on it, it still runs strong.

What all do I need to off the donor to make it work?

Re: Finally got me a donor truck for the 69 stepside

those engines are tough, my mom had a 90 sub with a 350 tbi and it had 230,000 miles on it and it still passed Ca emissions no problem, and comped out good too. Good score!

Older trucks with newer beds......that's just plain sinful.

But to each his own.....that's just my opinion.

Please look at post #10 of this thread that truck looks great it is far from ruined, besides it is my truck and I happen to like the idea of the newer bed, besides I have it already it's not going to cost me anymore to put it on, and if I used my bed over, I would need new wood and bed hardware, also a non spare tire fender, and the list goes on I don't like my current bumper, I don't like the lights on the old bed, should I keep going.

Re: Finally got me a donor truck for the 69 stepside

What I need to know is what I need to make the tbi swap complete and work. What have others done, any special things I need to be aware of, and just assume I know nothing. I am a professional mechanic but I don't work on automobiles I work on industrial oil field equipment.

Re: Finally got me a donor truck for the 69 stepside

I like the 90's beds on the 67-72 trucks, but only if they are lowered with the right wheel/tires like the orange one posted. I like them better than the older step side beds.

You're right, it's your truck, do what you like.

And yes, that truck in the pic is nice as far as quality goes, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the wheelwells don't come close to matching up, and neither does the body line that's missing from the newer step bed.

you like the looks, I don't. we're both entitled to our opinions.
