5 Bold Rear Axle?
My '69 GMC has 6-bolt hubs. I want to change to 5 bolt. Are there rear axles available with the right number of splines for a '69?

Present: 2015 Tacoma. Yeah, not a GM, but I love it. 1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix... 2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo 1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best. Past: '05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner. '94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said. |

Yup... Moser 5 lug conversion axles. I have them in my 1969 12-bolt housing I'm using. Perfect fit and free shipping from Summit racing.

It's real easy. You should have the narrow axle but you'll have to measure to be sure.

Moser is the way to go, just make sure you get the right length as others have mentioned. The earlier ones are slightly narrower than the later year model is a little wider.

measure axles length first............. you might have the wide hsg if so just swap axles,bearings n seals. change diff lube while your in there. next option is swap the whole axle assy, then moser..............

If you lay down under the truck and hold a tape measure against one side of the rear brake backing plate surface. .. then have your buddy, wife, etc pull the tape over to the other side and measure from one to the other in the same spot. The earlier 67-late 70 housing will be 55.5" long using this method. The later housing is 57". You might see this referred to as "plate to plate" measurement from time to time. It's just an easy way to do it without taking the wheels off or axles out.
The early housing takes a 30.5" axle. This is measured from the wheel mounting surface to the end of the splines. The later housing axles are 31 5/16 in this same method. At least knowing early on which housing you have, will help you determine if you're going to swap in originals or do aftermarket. I had a 6 lug 70 GMC that had the longer housing in it. You just never know, it's best to know what you're working with IMO. Hope this helps.

also you can take your 6 lug axles to a machine shop amd have them redrilled to 5 lug axle stud
