the only difference is the 327 3970010 block was a truck industrial motor as you can see.

In 1968 they made 327's with this casting number but they were only 2 bolt main.

Then from 1969 - 1979 they made 350's with this number and they were either 2 or 4 bolt main.

If it's a 4 bolt main, then you know it's a 350.

Hope this helps
yup thats is what i read about the block on google.. our motor stand is busy holding a other motor as u might see in the pictures so i wont be able to see if it 4 or 2 but either way its bigger then a 305! haha wish i new more about this motor though. could help in the long run. owel..

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

so we got the intake painted on the motor and got the motor droped in the truck just taking our time puttin it all back together. Knowing its a earlier model block and diffrent carb might have to do some rewiring and vacuum lines and such.. hopefully running by the weekend

Man.. I wish i could tell you. This motor was in a truck that was a tow in and never claimed. So we dont even know much about it. We were even surprised it had these in it. We still dont really know if it has anything internally. Maybe a mild cam. So ya. I dont know

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

heres a pic of the motor in the truck with headers bolted up and carb on. still gotta get these wires situated and vacuum lines and new plug wires.. btw when the motor was out we replaced some broken lines on the transimision and replaced the front seal. when the motor is all in and running we will replace the rear seal, transmission mount, and the u joints in the drive-shaft. hopefully this trans doesnt leak anymore fluid!

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

we ran a smaller air cleaner then that and it didn't choke out. Looks like a 10 inch or so, that's pretty good sized. if anything change the filter itself to either a taller one, or just a reusable style. The one we had is like a 6 inch it's barely bigger then the carb flange.

I ordered a 14 inch for my 88 to cover up the tbi and all that crap.

It's up to you but I never had any problems with ours and yours is bigger. So if you wanted you could go taller, or reusable for more flow or go with a bigger dia. one.

Ours was and is a daily driver so it didn't see much high rpms so maybe that comes into play somewhere but for us it was fine. I was kinda thinking you don't need 2 breathers in one valve cover or two breathers period really.

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

hmm probably wont feel it as much with a stock motor. i know it was night and day from that little thing and a big one. even with a stock style filter.

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

aaaww I like the yellow ones. The VC's don't look too bad mothers chrome polish can really shine them up, but you can get dress up kits dirt cheap, some have valve cover's and air cleaner assemblys. I just bought one for my 88 for like $22 and it was a 14 inch and they have valve covers dirt cheap.

summit, jegs, ebay, streetsideauto, amazon, tons of places so shop around for the best deal and maybe free shipping.

As for stock good point, might be the difference ours was stock.

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

The valve covers on it have been cut up on the sides where the studs come through. Idk why the guy that had the motor before did what he did but he butchered it. We straightened the edge on them and put some new gaskets on so hopefully it won't leak.

Autozone has a nice set of stamped valve covers. Chrome and says Chevrolet on the top. For like 65 bucks.

Re: 1985 chevy c10 swb

you can get those cheaper online they are made by gm performance parts or proform, most likely proform and cheaper. it has the bowtie then says chevrolet? If so then it's the same ones I'm talking about. Also forgot to say that you have roller rockers and tall valve covers now, better make sure to try and get tall ones or the rockers may hit on the short ones.

Ya I need the clearance. My covers are about 3.5 inches tall. I'll have to look it all up.
