Very nice job on the window rebuild. Where did you buy the replacement parts?

Yep, it is for sale, but no air ride. I'm trying to get right so I can buy a Blazer, and keep this truck.

Thanks, I bought the vent windows from board member rogerkoop, and the rest of it came from GMC Paul.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

While we were at Cruisin' the Coast the truck had a weird feel to the front end when I applied the brakes and it was pulling a little to the left. Rob (Hart_Rod) said I needed to check the upper control arm shims, but I shrugged it off. I decided to take his advice and I'm glad I did, the left side aft shim pack had fallen out! They were sitting in the top of crossmember. I reinstalled them and torqued all of the upper control arm nuts to 70 ftlbs. I think I'll take it to the alignment shop and have it checked...

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Measure your "final" shim pack height and make a piece of tubing (or round stock shim) to replace it.
That way they can't fall out.

When ever we have a car or truck that needs that many shims i replace most of them with flat washers and stagger a couple of shims in between so you can still adjust for the alignment.

That's a good idea too. The funny thing is; after the new alignment I don't have nearly as many shims. I guess the first shop isn't very knowledgeable about dropped suspensions, drives much better now!

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Little prelude to an update... Ordered a Circle D torque converter with a 2600-2800 stall speed today. After talking with a few guys who have LS swaps with aftermarket cam upgrades I learned that having a looser converter will help with the low idle and "pushing" in gear. We'll see in a week or so... I wonder if my transmission will come out without having to dismantle the truck?

Thanks bro!

The converter has been swapped and the cooling lines have been reconfigured to use the cooler in the radiator and a heat sink style cooler. Still need to change the filter and service it up, should have it buttoned up before tomorrow.

From what Chris at Circle D says it should wake it up quite a bit.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Well it took me a few days, but I've read your entire thread. Truck looks great and I love everything you've done. A few hours of reading and 40 pages later, you are now responsible for me spending more money on my truck and lengthening my build.

I really like those wheels btw. Those were the ones I originally wanted until I scored a deal on my 18" Ridlers as a temporary wheel.

Next you need to do the PB coilover kit as that's what I'm looking at. I'm interested in hearing the difference in ride and handling

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

The converter swap is complete and I am happy to report it went well. I was worried it would be a task given all the changes that have been made to the chassis, but it was very simple. I didn't even have to remove the exhaust! The converter has woken up the engine quite a bit by allowing it to get into the power band immediately and the pushing and idling issues have subsided. I also picked up a set of NOS outer rockers from GMCPAUL, so when I do get started on the body I'll have good parts to start with.

Yeah I know, I know... patina is king. I am not in a hurry to paint it, but the rust in the rockers and the lower cup on the passenger fender is progressing and one day it will have to be fixed in order to keep the integrity of the body. And to be honest, I may choke the next person who says, "That would be a nice truck if it had a paint job." Don't fret fella's the patina is safe for a while longer.

I feel ya Bucks68!! My hands tremble when I hear the same statement!! The other dumb statement is "now all you need is paint"... If I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I'd be a very wealthy man!!! Hold on to the patina as long as you can..
