hooking up a oe tachometer in my 84

I have a used tachometer gage that I am putting into my 84' Silverado and was wondering does the 12volt wire from the tachometer hook up to a hot wire or one that comes on with the key switch?

Hook it up to an ignition switched source so it only has power with the key on.

OK, thanks-now all I have to do is find the right wire to hook it to.

Re: hooking up a oe tachometer in my 84

There should be 3 receptacles over on the left side of the fuse box that are marked "IGN". You can plug the tach power wire into any one of them. If you have the factory tach harness, it should already have a plug on the end of the wire that will fit right into one of those receptacles. If not, you can buy a plug that will fit them here --> https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pco-0952pt?rrec=true
