Hazards won't cancel

1971 C10 Non tilt steering
The cancelling cam for the turn signal does not cancel the Hazard switch. (It does cancel the turn signals) There are 4 nubs on the cam, but they do not extend out far enough to touch the red hazard cancel lever. The cam nubs miss the red hazard cancel lever by 1/8". Am I missing something, have the wrong cancelling cam, etc?

Hazard flasher does not self cancel.. You have to manually cancel them.. Although it's illegal in some states, this feature allows you to drive down the road with hazard flashers going..

I tried manual cancelling, but the red button does not pull back out, no matter how hard I pull.
When I touch the internal red lever, the switch returns to the off position.

I believe I have the wrong switch. I'm going to buy the correct one and try it.

I guess it's because of manufacturing tolerances, but some switches operate easier than others, but I've never seen one that couldn't be pulled out (off). I doubt that you have the wrong switch, probably just one that's worn out or defective.

sounds like a defect or broken item to me. Yes, no cancel on hazards...that one totally confused me

I have no connection to National Parts Depot (NPD), but I am familiar with the company as I've used their parts in the past.. I took it upon myself to contact them and provided them with a link to this thread.. Today, I received a reply to my email.. Here is a word-for-word reply to my email............

Here’s what we found..

We had a total of 6 on the shelf here in FL. 4 of them, the hazards pushed-on and pulled-off with normal effort, no problem. 2 did not want to pull-off, just as was reported on the forum thread. BUT… We found that just repeatedly cycling/exercising the hazard switch, within a minute or two, both “tough” switches were operating as smoothly and effortlessly as the “easy” ones. They just needed some breaking-in. Which you shouldn’t have to do out of the box, but it appears to fully remedy the situation.

If you could please relay, I didn’t know how I would be seen as a vendor “invading” your forum to communicate.

I was messing with my hazard switch when I replaced the turn signal switch, and it looks to me like the hazard light switch is meant to be pushed back in the direction of the ignition switch to cancel it. Seems sketchy with 50 year old plastic, but even the original switch had plenty of flex in it.
