Value

Does anyone know why the Old Car Value "Guide" gives twice the value to 67-68 models as the 71-72? I can't comprehend any reason. Myself I prefer the 71-72. They have front disc brakes & most are equipped with P.S. & A/c.
I like the looks of the grill also on the 71-72.

Re: Value

No clue but I'll take a stab at it. In a nutshell, I think a lot of people prefer the looks of the grill and sloped hood of the '67-'68 trucks. I like 'em too, quite a lot, but I'm keeping my '72 for the reasons you stated -- front discs, power steering, and four-season A/C.

Re: Value

It's because they have already hit the 50 year old mark and the last all metal grille Chevy trucks had ,The values on the others will climb also .I've always said when any of the "value" books start buying trucks I'll pay more attention to them until then they mean little in the real world .

Re: Value

Its a pretty simple answer, the 67-68's are by far more popular. all you have to do is go to any car show, cruise night, or most social media platforms. I personally am not a fan of the 69-72 front ends. And I own one.

The 69-72 will increase in value but I don't think that they'll ever be worth the same as the 67-68. They just aren't as clean.

I remember when every second 69-72 was getting a 67-68 clip. The purists can thank the ridiculous body shop rates and the Patina style for putting a stop to most of that.

Re: Value

I think the answer is:

a) plain and obvious if you own a 67-68
b) arbitrary, capricious and confusing if you own a 69-72

Since mine's a GMC with a full chrome grille, doesn't matter to me! I actually don't like the box-truck look of the 67-68 and especially don't like the small back window or long step sides. So everyone has preferences, all prices reflect is where they align. And I guess -other- people like those things.

As for me, even though I don't own one, 72 will always be the best year. Most features, refinement, comfort and still 100% as tough.

Re: Value

It doesn't make any sense to me George. I could see if the slant noses were a few thou above the 69-72s (well, personally I coudn't see it), but not twice the value. That just doesn't compute. I would say that books like that base stuff more on popularity or an arbitrary crossing of an age line than technical aspects like disk brakes, etc. But who knows.
