33's with no lift?

For some reason I think I have heard of ppl running 33's on 15x8's with no problem.
The reason I ask I would love to get rid of those ugly wheels I have on and add the 15x8's I'm getting from Randy. I will be going with a 4in lift someday hopfuly this late summer or early fall after I add a new soft top.
As anyone got by with this? I have seen some of the 2nd gen do it with all most rubbing.
Thanks guys.

Here's the deal on lifts----and wheels. When I bought my blazer last month, it had 33" tires on 10" wheels with a 3" lift. I pulled the lift and swapped out the 10" wheels for 8" rallies. It does not rub and rides/handles better with a somewhat lower center of gravity. The 10" wheels spaced the tires out too far which required the PO to do the lift thing. when you drove down the road, dirt/mud/etc. would get thrown up onto the body exterior from the 10" wheels especially in the front where the wheel base is about 3" wider then the back.
Now when you think about it, the lift thing is more for show then go as the axels are still the same height from the ground with no lift, a 3" lift or a 6" lift. Unless you go for some giant tires, you axels stay about the same height from the ground.

So it's a safe bet I can get by for a little bit before the 4in lift gets on. The wheels are 15x8 so they will not push out far.
Thanks for your input Huck

You probably won't be able to do any off-roading with 33's and no lift. My first K5 had 35's on a 4" lift and it was just fine. My '69 has a 6" lift with 35's. My '72 has a 4" lift with stock tires and there is tons of clearance. Eventually, I want to get some wider stock wheels and go to slightly larger tires, maybe up to 33's, but I've got 3.08's and don't feel like going to the expense to swap them out.

Your right BT
With me on the road most all the time I doubt I'll even get to my favorite fishin hole. And for that I need 4wd so I guess it can wait for a short time. I guess it comes down to me really hateing the wheels and tires that are on it right now, Although good tires they are just way to small.
I had wanted to go with 35's but I have 3.73's and with no OD 33's and 3.73's mite workout pretty good.

Heres a pic of jamie72's Blazer. It has 33x12.50s on 15x8 wheels with the stock suspension. Looks awesome, I think that size tire with no lift fits the wheel well perfect. I can't quite remember, but I think he said it doesn't rub.

Great looking K5 Jamie72

When I get ready for tires I'll go that way for a little bit till the lift finds it's way into the money.

Keep in mind, not all 33" tires are actually 33" tall. Same goes for all sizes of tires. One brand may fit fine, the next may rub like crazy mad. The more aggressive the tread, the more likely they will rub (and possibly do some body damage!)

My stock suspended 71 runs 15x8 stock rims and 33" rubber(actually mesure 32.5")
I flexed it out as much as i can with my stock suspension and have never had it rub.

Wow, bobbyK. That's some great info. Do you know what the rear off-set is on the stock wheels? I've been thinking about getting some wider steel wheels so I can keep the stock hub-cabs but run a little wider tire, mayb even some 33's.

Well all the rims are the same.
You know I've never mesured them. They are stock rally rims that came on the 70+80's K5's.
Sorry I can't help further.

The stock 15 X 8 6 lug truck rallies have about 3 1/2" of backspacing. I am also running those wheels with 33 X 12.50 BFG A/Ts on my stock Blazer.
