New Seats installed

I got my new seats in this weekend I found them on CL. They came out of a 99 GMC so I now have the shoulder belts. I got the power hooked up and they work great ! I had some thick fabric that I got somewhere, ( can't remember) I was going to use it for a headliner in my '74 but never got to it. It matches pretty good so I used it to cover the tank and I have enough to do my door panels too.

Looks good. I'm going to be running similar seats....2004 Cadillac deville seats...almost look the same as yours...just deeper side bolsters and center recess...

Re: New Seats installed

Any difficulty in mating the seats to the floorpan? Notice much less legroom? Seats look nice and having shoulder belts is a bonus.

Looks good. Did you have to modify the seat brackets to mount them?

I just had to drill new holes for the bolts, I had to shim the door side up a little so the track would clear sliding back. I used some old caster camber shims from my race truck to lift it up a little. You could use washers too as I didn't realize I had a problem until after I had them bolted in. I also had my nephew who is 6' 2 take it for a drive and he fit in with no problem! Shoulder/seat belts was one of the reasons to change.

Re: New Seats installed

i sure hope you reenforced the floor.... large 2 inch diameter washers or something, long angle iron strips.... something...
People either love those seats, or despise them. At least you got the plastic/leather ones. The cloth ones suck.

Re: New Seats installed

I was going to take pictures and just got going and had them installed in no time. All I did was use a piece of flat 1/8 steel about 1 x 4 inches and drilled holes. My floor was not rusted at all and very solid. The gas tank is in the cab. I ran a wire from the fuse box to the positive wire on the seat then continued over to the other seat. I did wire in a 2 prong rubber coated plug in case I wanted to take them out.

Re: New Seats installed

For everyone looking for these seats, another place you could look is of all places...2000-2004??? Cadillac devilles...I just got a set with power and cream leather for a really good price. The difference is you will have to make custom brackets to mount them. I am happy about this because they sit a little lower and should tuck the backs of the seat under the window frame. Of course the seatbelt tensioner and headrest will still be above the window. I haven't installed them yet. Plans are for a custom console to run from the dash to a custom speaker box behind the seats.

Nice !

I used the ones from a truck so I could have the third seat and a console. Sometimes I need to take both grandchildren for a ride

Why would you need to reinforce the floor?

It is just thin sheet metal and with the belts integrated into the seat, if you ever get in a wreck, the bolts can pull right out of the floor!

Re: New Seats installed

I just put a set of 99 Dodge ram seats in my GMC, they look and feel great, near perfect fit in the cab, Ill post some pics tomorrow, made 4 brackets out of 1/8 angle iron and bolted the hole thing to the original bolt holes, power seat, plenty of leg room and once the tilt goes in, the truck will be perfect.......Use good hardware.

Re: New Seats installed

Here is where I am at today,,,,nice old truck, with comfortable, better seat belts and wont kill me to drive hundreds of miles.....Youll see a Dodge ram, in the back of some of these pics, thats the model you want to find these seats in, If you go 03 and up youll have to make custom frames and mount the seats to them like I am doing for my suburban. The newer seats wont go straight in the truck, no way, no how.

I have plenty of room from the steering wheel and roof, I am 5'5 and they fit me perfect, I can also move the seat forward some and adjust the seat back too.

The ram seat is not a solid frame across so you have to come up with some ideas on what isnt bolted down, I am going to run flat stock from the un mounted points to other possible spots, maybe the seatbelt bolts under the tank, but the four spots I mounted it to with grade eight bolts has this seat sturdy. I also have good room inside the cab seats dont touch the inside of the doors or the upper inside (see pics) . I used the harness from the dodge which only had three wires, hot, ground, seatbelt warning light (cut that one off) works perfect. If you want to know more let me know.

Re: New Seats installed

Last pics...

The ram seat frame is bolted together in the middle and sturdy, but its not a solid frame like the back breaker...

I spent 200 bucks on the seats, no way could I have rebuilt the bench with that low of cash, I think its well worth the money.

If anyone wants I can send them the measurements I used.

Plus they kinda match the interior scheme,,,,
