Re: 1970 C30 flat bed delivery

Welcome from Ft Worth!

I think it is way cool for guys to restore or rod-store the C20/30 trucks, not many on the road today at all.

Is there a difference in the fender emblems for the different years? You might look at my pics to see if you have one. Thanks again & God Bless.

Re: 1970 C30 flat bed delivery

In this trucks case, it's from sitting for 23 years! Last driven in 1987. Worst thing to do is let them sit outside like that. In my state, they rot from the ground up when sitting.

I'm giving it a second life.

Re: 1970 C30 flat bed delivery

I would like to retain the 12' bed. Need suggestions on the maximum frame length with regards to pulling a travel trailer.

Frame extended 2' between cab and rear axle.
Axle to axle is 13', rear axle to ball hitch 6'2"

My concern is the rear axle acting as the fulcrum and possibly decreasing the front axle weight.
I have an extra chassis and I can utilize the frame to beef up mine. The bed was mounted on wood but I’m planning on utilizing steel along the frame between the can and rear axle to beef up the frame and to level out the bed. I’m also going to clean up the end of the frame and add extra bracing. I can cut off the bed length if need be but would rather not.

Does anyone have any engineering experience, concerns, or comments.

I've done some frame work (cutting, grinding, welding, chipping) but have not uploaded any picture yet. Still more to do before hanging the springs. I will upload picture soon.

Update on frame work.
Added 2”x4”x3/16” tubing for the flat bed and utilized it to stiffen the frame and the 2’ foot splice at the center of the frame as well as the 16” I added to the tip of the frame.
