My GMC 1967 project

Hi, I am new in this forum but wanted to share some pics of my old GMC 1/2 ton truck. I am trying to restore it as honestly as I can, it is my first project as well. It originally had a Light Green color with a fawn interior. I have doubts about how to paint the wheels, I will try to stick to the stock wheels painted with the same body color and chromed hubcaps... Anyway let me know your comments!

Re: My GMC 1967 project

Welcome, that is a really nice looking truck. That is very similar to the color I hope to paint my '72.

Re: My GMC 1967 project

A stock restoration on a '67 GMC is not as common as I would like to see, I commend you for the challenge (most end up with some type of mag, ralley wheel or incorrect full wheelcovers). Here is a excellent reference of a super low mileage GMC for a serious restoration.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...+gmc+barn+find IMO, the original off white (ivory) wheels and matching caps are hard to beat with the light green body.

Re: My GMC 1967 project

Thanks a lot for the reference factorystock. I´ve seen some of your interesting posts regarding wheels and hubcaps. And I have to confess I made a mistake acquiring some GMC hubcaps for a 3/4 ton that definitely do not fit into the wheels.

By the way, the truck currently have 16" rims with a bump, instead of clip. I think they are not the originals at all, and is getting difficult trying to find the correct GMC hubcaps. I will be uploading some photos. Regards.

Re: My GMC 1967 project

Here is basically what I had 2 years ago. The truck has been in my family since 1972. Some 20 yrs ago it received a very bad paint job with incorrect green color, and other wrong details.

Grille and front bumper were originally white, but received a mediocre chrome job as well.

It has 16" rims with bumps instead of clips, so probably these rims are not the originals

The 305 V6 is the original one

Re: My GMC 1967 project

A mistake I want to document: I bought online a set of GMC hubcaps for 1967 but I got it for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, 8 lug wheel, instead of the correct ones for a 6 lug type of the 1/2 ton.

Another difference is that these do not fit into my 16" rims with bump, these are made for clip type of wheels.

Re: My GMC 1967 project

i grew up with my neighbor having a beautiful 67 3/4 ton all original custom cab package, the works... same color as your exactly. as my mom still lives in the neighbor hood i still see this truck, still pretty as ever but he went and put newer 2005 3/4 ton wheels on it. ill have to stop and ask if he will sell the rims and tires since he obviously wont sell me the truck, even though he never drives it. Its always clean though!!
in 67 though, werent the gloveboxes the same color as the dash cluster and textured?

Re: My GMC 1967 project

Thank you michael bustamante, what you mention is true, my truck doesn't have the proper dash cluster installed, but I have the original one, you can see it in one of the pics, but the plastic is broken, I will try to repair it. It comes in a grey color with texture, and from some photos I've seen the glovebox is matching color with the cluster, hope to have it the right way soon!
