Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

I'm a little surprised because over the years here I've seen quite a few threads that people were, yeah the red looks good but ...

I have a really nice split bench out of a late 60s Chev, 'Im going to drag it out and send pics to the upholstery guy. I'm leaning towards a 60s vibe. Possibly diamond stitched

But with that said, do it the way that is going to make YOU happy. If you don't, you'll end up regretting it and either doing it over or selling the truck. Just my .02$. OBTW, can't wait to see it done! !

Red! I want red, there's no substitute for red.
Red! Paint it red, green ain't mean compared to red.
You don't know what it does to me,
My crimson intensity
I'm haunted by the mystery,
The mystery of red.
Red knocks 'em dead,
Some like it hot, I like it red.

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

You're going diamond stitch split bench and you're worried about the color affecting resale? In my opinion the diamond stitch would limit the resale much more than the color.

Good luck, Rg

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

Well its obviously not a stock redo, lowered a bit with redline tires, black wheels and small caps. I think a tastefully done diamond stitch done in either black or red would look pretty good.

I'm not thinking all diamond, I'm thinking more insert style. Plus in the end this may end up being the truck I keep out of the several I own right now. Just trying to walk the line a bit on how its finished up.

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

I'm not knocking the diamond stitch, but it is a much more custom touch than the color choice. It's gonna be a great truck either way! Hey I'm putting a bench in a blazer, who am I to judge?

Good luck, Rg

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

I wanted seating for more than two, that means no buckets. And I'm considering a removable burb seat in the rear in case myself or new owners may want to haul even more people. That's why a split bench. Easy access to the rear.

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

Diamond stitches are very busy and is a turn off to a lot of people.
I sold a 70 Chevy truck that I should not have purchased for very cheap years ago because it had a black interior with diamonds stitches.
It was very depressing to drive.

Red says hot rod, timeless and sexy even in a bench or split seat with or without the added color but vertical fabric design.

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

So you think that the interior that you show if instead of the nice fabric inserts it had diamond inserts it would be depressing to drive?

I actually find that fascinating and will keep it in mind. I appreciate that insight.

Limited diamonds look ok if it's not overstated and small enough on textured surface.
It may actually look good with that fabric because of the patterns and texture of it.
But diamonds on a plane fabric won't look as good with that shiny new paint.
Btw my truck had a black interior with diamonds stitches, it felt like a casket and very closed in.
Good gosh! I just realized that I am very opinionated, I guess that's my because of my business.

My grandfather's name was Red Jenkins, so go with red. I think he liked diamonds, too.

Buddy buckets would look cool, but they are defiantly not a good bang for your buck kind of deal. Huge money to find a set, then find the set that works in a burb or panel that the buddy back rest doesn't fall over backwards. New foam and new covers. Pretty sure that would put you right around a million dollars (give or take haha). I do want to stick with bench.

And maybe Ill have Red Jenkins painted on the door. Driver:Red Jenkins

Problem I see is most of the factory vehicles with red guts.. They put red on everything.. My dads cutlass was this way.. EVERYTHING was red.
The dash/doors/carpet/seats/console/steer wheel/headliner..
Unlike many vehicle that came white that the dash.. carpet and maybe a few other parts were not white..

The 80's they went to the hole gut maroon.. It can be a little much..
The 70's red was brighter, and when the factory splashed it on everything it's a tad much.

Man, I've about had it with you coming along behind me second guessing, contradicting, ect. What's your beef? What is your point here?? You lay the towel on the seat when it sits so you don't burn your legs when you get in. You sit on the vinyl same as millions other have when you drive...unless you prefer laying something on it. That's pure common sense and it really truly is very effective. I lay a rag, my jacket, towel if somewhere I can borrow one, on my black leather motorcycle seat when left to sit in the sun. It works. This fellow member wants to use vinyl, either red or black. If you don't like vinyl use cloth. Cloth doesn't fit the specific vibe CG is obviously going after with all the other touches as well as his color choices. I get that, don't you?

Can we now get back to this thread without the BS? Sorry CG, staff, and fellow members. Back to ignore mode (unless something changes for the better)

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

Black on red interior is a fantastic color combination. A 62 bubble top Impala is one of my favorites. We are working on a 69 CST black on red interior. Red interior gets my vote.

Was just a reply, why you taking it personally..
He is asking about colors.. and IF it was me.. and I needed to put a cloth over a seat because vinyl is known to get screaming hot.. And the thread is about resale, were the next owners location isn't known, to know if it be in very warm summer locals.. I'd think of maybe recovering them in cloth..
Your post just happened to allow that thought to come to mind.. recover them in cloth..
Sorry. you took it personal .

Just watched a 71 442 convertible all black- except for the red stripes- sell for 160K at BJ. All black works & so does a touch of red!

Re: Best resale interior color ... black or red?

My question is are you looking to have the color make the truck worth more or are you hoping to have the color make the largest group of people possible want to buy the truck?

Black is safer for resale, but I love red, I think it looks much better. A nice combination of the two may be ok, but for me red will be the major color.

If I end up selling I want the color to be the one that the majority of people would like. Personally I really love red. But I also know that black would work really well (and some other colors too). I just need to ask myself would people go ... I really like the red but its just a little too "bold" for me, too bad its not black.

You ever look at a finished car that's selling at a finished price. Something the owner put his heart and soul (and wallet) in, but the owners taste in one aspect of his car, be it interior, paint color, whatever it is, you say to yourself ... Man this would be a great car if only, you aren't going to buy it because you don't want to put more dough in to a car that is already priced to where you should be totally happy with it and drive away with a smile.
