Drop spindle help

Hey guys. I installed a set of Westin drop spindle on my 68 c10. The spindles use the 73-87 brakes/rotors. They had no instructions and the problem I'm having is the new ball joints (for my 68) dont seem to seat all the way down into spindle. Am I supposed to use a different year ball joints for these?

Re: Drop spindle help

Spindles HAVE to match the upper and lower ball joints. Also the outer tie rods.
What year spindles did you buy.
63-70?
71-72?
73-87?

You mean Western?
If so give them a call, they answer questions pretty well. The same company as POL.

Re: Drop spindle help

Like Lolife99 mentioned, there are multiple spindle options w/each requiring different parts combos so you need to know that info.

Western Chassis spindles originally utilized 73-87 ball joints & TRE's. I don't know if they started offering them in the various possible combo options so if you can't make contact w/them (holidays & all), I would start testing 73-80 parts.

Re: Drop spindle help

Yes,sorry, Western. I ordered them years ago from CPP. At the time I believe they just said they used the 73-87 rotors/brakes and were for 67-72 c10. As stated, there were no instructions with them. The box is long gone so I dont even have a part number and I dont believe CPP Carrie's them any more.

Re: Drop spindle help

I believe my son's 69 had 72 or 73 spindles, but I think they were stock 1/2 ton so I was able to find a casting number I believe. If the spindles use the 73 to 87 brake parts, I would assume they would use the 73 to 87 ball joints as well. I remember thinking they press in and torqued the crap outta the one I tried to put it, only to strip the stud and have to grind the darn thing out. LOL Good luck, but I would look towards the 73 to 87 since that is what brake parts go with the spindle. RR

Here is their page with their spindles: https://westernchassis.com/1960-1972...5-Truck-Parts/
You can either email them at their Tech Support - https://westernchassis.com/help.php?...us&mode=update
Or you can call them - 866-461-4437
