Post Re : 1969 C/10 250TH Pix

I still can't figure out how you guys put text between the pictures , I'd really appreciate a primer here .

Anyway , here it is , for the person asking about the TH350 T.V. Cable , look at pic # 3 , the bell crank on the intake manifold , the T.V. Cable is attached at the bottom of it , the throttle linkage is barely visible behind the Anti-Diesel Solenoid , just in front of the rockerbox , I hope this helps .

Hey Nate, I see you have an offset air cleaner. If you ever want to convert to power brakes, I have some booster brackets...

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

I picked up an intake mani fitting at Advance.I had to look thru the boxes of fittings.I used a 90* one because it made routing my hose cleaner.I used to port on the base of the mani under the carb. The one just in front of your bellcrank arangement or the TV.

Post Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

THANX ! when I worked in an outlying Heavy Duty Truck Shop , we had all manner of hardware , fittings , stuff to make up custom battery cables , on and on.... more Weatherhead fittings and hose ends than would fill a 40' Semi ~now that's all gone & in the L.A.P.D. Central Garage , it's amazing how they get anything done , all Ford dealer parts I guess .

I'll go give the local FLAPS a look . few seem to stock any Weatherhead these days .

Thumbs up Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Nice to see the engine is in place .

You'd best change that tin fuel filter for a NAPA / WIX clear one before you get stranded by diry gas .

3/8" hose size IIRC .

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Okay sounds good Nate. What do you think about the rubber fuel line that it has right now? All tips and ideas are welcome. I didn't paint it because I had only a day to borrow my neighbors engine hoist because he needed it for a job. Still seeing what i need to replace. I may even buy a new exhaust/manifold gasket kit. But might wait till I fire it up to see how it is first. ALSO I do not know if you can see but where the between the two last spark plug cables hangin there is a orange piece cross type thingy. What is the purpose is it a breather? I can take a better picture when I get home tomorrow.

P.S I am no mechanic but sure want to learn as much as I can before I do start driving this everyday for the rest of my life and get stuck in the middle of nowhere :-P

Thumbs up Re : 250 & TH350 IN !

I don't see anything between # 5 & 6 plugs or wires...

Unless the rubber fuekl hose is new by you , it should be replaced .

In fact , ther clear fuel filter is supposed to go just before the carby , not on the suction side of the fuel pump like it is now .

Folks who don't understand how these things work will errornusly tell you the filter over the manifold is bad , it isn't .

Keep plugging away ! you're doing great ~ I just don't like unpainted engines .

if you are talking about the fitting on the block that you can see next to the white tape on no6 lead -it is an oil pressure fitting.it needs to be blocked off or go to an oil pressure gauge.
cheers mark

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Ole dollor that is a nice setup in there. Love the 292.

Note:I ended up getting a new clear fuel filter and am replacing the old rubber part of the fuel lines with 5/16 because thats what it had but you noted that I should have got 3/8? is this okay what I got? I just want to try and do it right the first time around but I know I will fail hahaa. I mean this will be my daily driver for the rest of my life so I am trying to avoid cheap way out.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

longbed67, yes the hei was my first up grade, man it made a big difference, and the a/c is a must for old fat guys in texas...it does not look like much, but almost everything form brakes and suspension are done, power steering is next, then cab mounts, and auto. trans. looks like everyone is still running their 4 blade fan, i put a clutch fan on mine, i change from the 373 rear end gear to a 276 gear. that has given me over 18 mpg.

2.76 is pretty fast, does it seem to have enough power on take off or is it really slow now? I have 3.73's and a 250 with a TH400 auto and I have been contemplating a gear change. In fact, I have not seen anything faster than a 3.07 for the 12 bolt diff. Where did you get the gears?

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

That's quite an AC pump bracket. I used an external coil and mounted the pump a lot lower. The dist cap comes off very easily.
I would trim a lot of meat off your bracket, but first mount the PS pump and get the belts figured out.
What's wrong with a four blade fan? Works well on my truck, but I did put an electric fan out front.

I have 3.54 gears and a truck 4spd. I don't think it would like 2.76 at all. Maybe CA isn't as flat as TX.

Post Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Sanden AC compressors ! SWEET .

If 5/16" hose fits O.K. use it .

Always try to match the hose to the pipe .

NAPA/WIX makes those clear fuel filters in all sizes .

Cali. is mostly as flat as TEXAS but we have crappy " Motor Fuel " that's SO bad , by law they're not allowed to call it ' Gasoline ' because it ain't .

Please keep those pictures coming ! .

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

On my trip back from Seattle washington to wisconsin I averaged 18mpg with a 3ott and a 3.73 rear. I have switched out to a 3.07 with an eaton posi with 600lb springs and moser axles and am curious to see what I will get! I almost put in the 2.76 gears but opted for the 3.07's but still have them in the box if I change my mind!

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

richardj :yes i will cut the a/c bracket later, make it look a little better, vwnate1 i put the fuel filter before the pump because ole dollar had been on butane for years and the seat tank was full of really bad gas, i drained the tank and put new gas in, that was to catch anything that might have been in the tank, as far as a 4 blade fan goes they are noise and will cost you more in fuel having to pull a straight drive fan.

i got the power steering all put on ole dollar and changed out all the cab mounts, just my luck the old used power steering pump is leaking real bad, but it drives like a new one now, the cab mounts made a big difference in the ride,
now when the new pump comes in i will change it out and be happy, happy.
i went with the 276 gears on mine , thought about the 308, i think either one would work good, ole dollar will never be use as a tow vehicle, so i am after fuel mileage,i am at around 18.2 mpg right now at 2000 rpm , and 67 mph.
it takes off good in first or second. and i have no idea what the top end would be...
70stovebolt i got my gears from a place in lubbock texas, the name of the place is american differential . great people to do business with...

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Does anyone know where I could get a nice new fan guard like the ones I'm seeing on a few truck in the 2 straight six threads? I've looked online, and in the various catalogs I have, but--unless I'm calling it by the wrong name--no dice.
Thanks.
