Copper header gasket?

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but have never used any for my headers. Have a friend that has a new set of sb copper header gaskets that I was going to try. My question is the gaskets have a small lip around each exhaust port that protudes out about a mm or 2. Does the lip go toward the block or the header? Are they even worth messing with? Never had problems with the regular gaskets.

Thanks

Re: Copper header gasket?

The raised bead goes towards the header. If you've never had problems with the standard header gaskets,, I'd suggerst you stick with them. Best I've seen these used was with a good smear of hi-temp silicone on both sides before the header was bolted on.

Re: Copper header gasket?

with headers the soft copper or aluminium works great// have sealed great for my projects over the past 45years and they are reusable too

Re: Copper header gasket?

I use the cheaper Fel Pro gaskets and never had a problem. But i think the copper is reusable unlike the fel pros. And cost more.
