Luckily you didn't have to go too far out to find good metal on the spare tub. Quarter is looking good.

Truck looks really good. Are you leaving the paint alone and matching it the best you can?

Yes, matching the white on bottom the best I can for now. Next winter I will probably focus on painting the inside and doing the interior. Then the next year start to get it ready for paint

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Started on the rocker and floor repair on the passenger side. This is the worst section as far as rust on the entire vehicle. The post between the doors needs to be reattached but with a little fab work it shouldn't be to awful bad just time consuming

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Inner rocker and cab support mount on passenger front are roughed in. This weekend with a little luck the A-pillar and fab work on front of the B-pillar should be complete

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Inner rocker and some patch work in the middle are tacked in. A-Pillar has been installed so I can move on to fitment of the outer rocker

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

A small portion of the original rocker was still intact so I saved it and rebuilt that portion. Then I started to fit the truck rocker around it that the PO had already purchased for the vehicle to try and make it look somewhat factory

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

After fitting the rocker for the final time and installing the door I noticed it was off. So after taking a few measurements of the rocker and the bottom of the door, the rocker is 3/8 of an inch narrower than the door. I split the rocker and the PO also purchased a set of slip fit rockers as well so I trimmed the slip fit rocker to make up the distance, tacked it in place and checked it with the door for alignment. All looked good so I welded it in place and filled in the gaps where needed

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Today I started on the inner rocker for the 3rd door. Used a passenger side inner rocker piece and shorten it down to fit the opening for the 3rd door

Looks like that worked out pretty good after the mods. It's a good thing you are able to do this stuff yourself or you would have a ton of money invested in metal work....
