Auction pics

Went to an auction yesterday. It was for a fella who passed away a few years ago. The guy was a millionaire and had a huge personal car collection. These were his leftovers. Mostly rusted out garbage.

The prices for the most part were very reasonable. Basically scrap prices. As you can see almost all of them have pretty decent body damage. I would’ve bought a few if I had the space.

All trucks have been sold. Pics are just for entertainment purposes. I wrote the prices of the ones I could recall on the pic. But I don’t think anything sold for more than $500 unless posted otherwise. Most of the junky ones sold for about $200. That’s Canadian dollars.

And please no internet tough guy comments about what a jerk he was to hoard and let these vehicles go to waste. It doesn’t matter now.

Re: Auction pics

You know YB, that 3rd pic of the gmc for 200 bucks could be one of the few ice coral (pink) trucks sold.
Likely worth a whole bunch more than that.
I know of a few more large collections.
One north of Red Deer and one east of Westaskiwin. Both about a 1/2 section in size.
Most of those trucks were likely hauled away for free.

Where was the auction held?

There’s actually a coral truck 2 blocks from my house. It’s very rough and missing a lot of the proper parts and the old fella still wants $15k. He doesn’t understand the difference between rare and valuable.

The firewall was red/orange as well. It appeared to be an original paint truck. And it was rough. These are the auctioneers pics, so keep in mind that the bad sides weren’t shown.

This was in Edmonton. On the south side. There’s still a lot of stuff out there.

Re: Auction pics

I had to walk away from this one. It was super complete and sold for under$1000. I love the colour.

A very good friend of mine bought both of these. 1962’s Both V8, powerglide cars. Very complete. And in relatively decent shape.

Re: Auction pics

Personally I would have liked to thank the man for saving all them from the scrappers. I know of two brothers in Helvetia who had a similar collection with more older vehicles that their father had collected. The brothers decided to grow hay on the field so they hauled the entire 5 acres of cars to the scrap yard. I worked with one of the brothers and it changed our relationship after he told me about it.

Spoken like a true car guy. A lot of cars went to new homes yesterday. Hopefully some of them will make it back on the road.

There was a standing scrap bid of $100cdn per unit. Even then some of the bidders tried to low ball. The kids of the collector were quite sensitive to what their father would’ve liked. It was refreshing to see.

Well instead of complaining I was just thinking about how nice it is that the Alberta tar sands won't be claiming them back.

Re: Auction pics

It would have been pure torture for me if I was there... I know I would have been trying to figure out a way to drag several to back to Texas, and being restricted by the added cost. Thanks for sharing this though, I'm glad to see someone score!

Re: Auction pics

I'm glad they are selling it off, as their father would have wished. People who scrap fields of cars should go to ... Ok, let's keep this a happy thread! I love that there have been people hanging onto these old vehicles. Just like an old junk yard that doesn't fall for the scrap scam.

You've got me curious now Tim... what is the "scrap scam"?

Re: Auction pics

Great stuff and I was thinking the same thing. Old guy really rescued those rides and held them for someone else rather than let them get scrapped. The two convertibles, holy cow. If one of those makes it back to road worthy that's great.

My grandmother was from Edmonton. Makes me smile and remember her just to see the name.
