I immediately went to trying to figure out why that configuration when they could have had the whole bed that long and a normal cab with a 157" chassis and 12' flatbed. You can always haul shorter material on a longer bed.
This reminds of a unique truck my friend set up for Vintage Lumber, a recycled wood dealer. He made a '80 C/30 with a 16' bed and rear tag axle. It was a cool truck. I wish I had a picture. I'll see if he has one.

Those clear running lights aren't original. They also got the paint mix too light.
