Electric Fan recomendations - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have looked and looked at many fans for my 67 w/454 and end up with ziltch. I have 3 inches from pump pulley to radiator. Anyone here have the same distance and have found a fan with shroud that will fit?

Changing the water pump is not an option because of the serpentine belt system, and I'm leaving that alone.

I will check mine tomorrow morning on the Panel Truck to see how thick they are.

Maybe a trimmed factory late model big single unit?
I had a Lincoln MK8 fan on a 454 with short WP and it worked great. Maybe it would have cleared a long WP??

I went with the dual fan and shroud kit from Old Air Products for my 454 swap. It's a TIGHT fit. The water pump pulley actually sits between the fan motors, the alternator is above the passenger side motor, and the PS pump is below the drivers side motor.

Here is a dual fan setup that I am interested in....whenever I get working on my suburban again, I will have same problem as you...Vortec 454 w/serpentine system....

Put a pusher on it, you should have room between the radiator and A/C condenser if so equipped. I have run both pushers and pullers with no issues.

As mentioned... the dual fan setup will place the thinnest portion of the setup at your pump snout.

I went with the Champion dual fan shroud and 14" dual fans on my BBC with long pump and it fit nicely.

Mine measure 5" overall thickness at the fan motors and 3 1/4" at the pump snout.

The setup is off of a 2002 Camry. It fit great with minimal mods. At the top where it says "L" shaped mounting brackets they are actually "Z" shaped made out of 22ga metal 2 1/2" long. The fans cool great. The 2nd one very seldom comes on.

I went to a 19" fan from Summit and made my own shroud to get my cooling problems under control. It turned out that the fan was too far into the shroud, no matter what clutch I tried, even the shortest available. I also installed a high flow thermostat. It runs cool (180º) in most conditions. It can run up to 200º when maneuvering the trailer into position with a lot of back and forth (I'm not that skilled with parking a travel trailer tight into the trees, yet).

That's without running the AC, as it broke last year. It might get up to 200º pulling the trailer up a steep hill. It used to get up to 260º doing that.

I realize that this is not an electric fan recommendation, but I just wanted to share that an electric fan isn't always the solution.

Sorry for not responding. I have been locked out of the system since the day I posted this.

So, that being said, I went ahead and made my own shroud, and curious to what brand fans you guys feel are best for performance and reliability? 454 vortec with 4 core. But need fairly thin fans because of clearance.

I just checked the dimensions and it looks like it’s maybe too thick.

Reason I ask is that I have one that’s nearly brand new out of my recently wrecked TBSS.

I bought an entropy radiator with the dual 16” fans. Had all kinds of overheating issues before. Since installing the system with my 462 BBC it runs no hotter than 185 degrees even during 100 degree summer days.

I decided to build my own shroud. That's done, but now to find 2 fans. Summit probably has them but the way we have to get parts from them makes it tough to just look to see if they will fit. You have to order online or by phone and pay. Then you have to go there and sit in the parking lot and call to let them know you're there. Then you have to wait for someone to bring the parts out. If you don't have a cell phone...like me...you have to turn your flashers on. The guys running the parts just fly right by you without saying a word.

If what you buy doesn't work, you have to start all over again.
