Question some conversion advice....

In my serach for a blazer...I reach a point where I need to make a decision.
The decision is based on money...and what I want.

I am looking at the frame that is for sale on the board....I am looking at DMNCLR's blazer for sale...and then there is a 2wd conversion for sale somewhere else...

I don't know enough about the differences in the blazers to make a decision.
The guy with the conversion said that the PO took the front end out of the same year pickup and converted the 4x4 to 2wd.....the body is emaculate(so he says)...he also says he will deliver it...so I guess my general question is....is a conversion as good as a factory 2wd? Now, I am not getting a blazer to rebuild and then sell and make a lot of money...this is for my own use....I want a 2wd for my self...Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Conversion Blazer's Have Rear Leaf Springs, A 2wd Has Trailing Arms
There Is A Big Ride Difference ( Trailing Arms Are Softer Ride ) Also
The Resale Value Will Not Be Very Good, If You Are Planning To Keep
It Forever No Big Deal, If The Price Is Fair I Would Consider One.

SOME THINGS 2 CHECK BEFORE YOU CONSIDER BUYING IT,

DOES IT RUN TRUE DOWN THE ROAD, DRIVE IT W/ SOMEONE FOLLOWING U
DOES IT LOOK LIKE THE PO DID EVERYTHING CORRECT SUSPENSION WISE
DOES IT NEED ROCKERS / ROCKER BOXES - EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT COST
DOES IT NEED BED SIDE / BED FLOOR PATCH PANELS - SAME AS ABOVE

This is a conversion. It's quick, looks okay, and draws more attention than my old vette...

I'm more than happy with it. Most these old trucks aren't 100% original anyway, they have different running gear or sheetmetal or whatever.

The only thing is resale value. But I wonder about that too. I know I've been offered more for mine than I paid, and I never misrepresent it to anyone.

Good luck, and remember, you are the one who has to be happy with it...

sweet ride raggedjim! body looks mint! so what year front subframe and components did you use? leafs still in the rear? how are the rattles? squeaks and doors banging into the striker plates?

Well, maybe I did misrepresent a little! It is a 4wd tub on an original 2wd blazer frame, so it has the trailing arms and coils in the rear.

As far as ride, it handles better than any other old truck I've had, but I never put the top on and it does rattle some at speed (I think new window tracks would take care of most of that) As far as the body, it's not perfect, but it looks okay. I have a 2wd Jimmy I am just starting to tear down. It will be alot more radical than the blazer. But given my work schedule, it may NEVER be done!

As far as conversion of a 4wd frame with a 2wd front cossmember, one of the nicest 2wd blazers I've ever seen still has leaf springs. A guy from Metropolis, Il owns it, he built it for his wife. I would take it in a heartbeat!

Unlees your really stuck on th idea of having an original 2wd buy a conversion or do one yourself if you find a 4x4 you like if the ride bothers you you could 4link it with coils overs or bags.
