Re: Inline 6 tribute

And actually Cummins onan owns it now but the roots go back to Studebaker

McGraw-Edison purchased Studebaker-Worthington in 1978. McGraw-Edison was in turn acquired by Cooper Industries in 1985.[20]Cummins Engine began acquisition of Onan Corp. in 1986, and completed the transaction in 1992.[21]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studebaker-Worthington

In 1973 Studebaker Worthington had 1 billion in sales. Really what's that in 2020 money. Dont sound like a bankrupt company to me

First Studebaker was was made in 1852. Ever hear of the Conastoga wagons trademark Studebaker brothers

Chevy isn't the be all end all they screwed millions of people.
I remember standing in a museum in Santa Barbara and seeing the "Studebaker" name on a coach! Until then I had no clue about the history of Studebakers.

Re: Inline 6 tribute

I apologize.
I was just trying to first understand if Studebaker was in in business still or not from your statement.
I had to go online and find out.
What are you agitated about? I was just asking.

Re: Inline 6 tribute

Let's be chill here. No one got anyone agitated over Chevy vs Studebaker but you, Mark. It was/is a really cool car company that I still really admire. I migrated to being a GM guy out of personal preference back when that covered all my needs for work, play, or show... with easy access to reasonably priced parts being a huge plus. I have preferences but that doesn't mean I can't like anything else. I could give a rat zass about the business end of any of these corporations. You could say Pontiac and Olds, along with Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac went out when GM was formed. But way back then each "Brand" did build it's own car, it's own design, in it's own factory

Re: Inline 6 tribute

My understanding was that Studebaker were making great use of the Paxton supercharger, for their V8 powered performance models, and so decided it made sense to buy Paxton and their expertise. This occurred prior to Studebaker moving to Canadian only production.

The Canadian factory was run well by the plant manager, stopping waste and what not. It actually made a small profit, and there were design proposals for a makeover of the Lark for 1967 model year, but the management decided they no longer wanted to be in the car making business. They reached that decision much earlier when they appointed Sherwood Egbert to run Studebaker. He was originally supposed to oversee it being wound down, but did the opposite and took a real interest in the company, including the Avanti.

Here's some engineering ingenuity from Chevrolet and their inline six. I think this was the start of the modern era, using a turbo on a small engine to produce better performance, and achieve improved emissions and economy while running off boost during the EPA test cycle. Pretty impressive.

I really like the 250 six in my 67 GMC but my old man does not and wants to put a 496 in there (dont blame him).

I would drop that into my 1976 GMC 3/4 ton

I dunno how much difference there is in the motor mounts compared to the 350 ...?

I have one in my Chevelle they do have different mounting structure than my 350 truck. Just above the rag joint the motor mount bolt goes through the bad . So in essence two bolts and the mounts are disconected
