Hazard Switch

Hey Guys,

New to the forum, but have been playing with my C10's for a while.

My question to the groups is. A 1971 C10, which type of hazard switch should it have. The Red style or the black mushroom style.

Thank you for the help in advance

Re: Hazard Switch

My 71 C/30 has a red one

The interior is original (except later model Chevy steering wheel, CB and Pioneer Supertuner).

Even though I've got a C/30 I figure a C/10 would be the same. Don't know if there was a midyear change but my truck was built in April 1971 if it matters.

71 Dually,

Thanks for the photo and the information.

I found a 4 speed tilt column that I'm going to install, and I found a company that sells the Red switch style turn-signal assy., just trying to make it look correct.

I'm not sure the tilts used the red switch. You may want to hold off until you get more responses. I have found 3 true truck tilts in the last few years. None had the red switch. KevsClassics is an expert on these. You might try sending him a PM.

Re: Hazard Switch

The truck tilts do not use the red flasher style. They use the black style or there is a chrome flasher knob that looks great!

Re: Hazard Switch

Sorry to too high jack the thread but this might help out some other poeple. My red hazard nob is broken and i would like to replace it. Is there a way to replace just the knob, or do you have to replace the whole switch. The turn signal swtich with red knob was 42.00 at M&H.

That's what is wrong with mine- the red button was dry rotted/brittle from age and just snapped off.

I went through the M&H site but didn't see the hazard switch. What's the PN? I haven't been able to find a repop of the original red button by itself, just the round black ones....

Yes, you will have to get the wiring harness that excepts the screw in chrome knob not the red knob that is built into the harness.

That is the tilt column turn signal harness? Will that still work with the non-tilt? Thank you!

Yes, it will work in the non tilt column. Buy this switch from Parts-N-Things and just remove the indicator light. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1972-C...53.m1438.l2649

They are even located in Oregon

Thumbs up Re: Hazard Switch

Sorry guy's but yes the tilts use the red flasher knob. I have them in both my trucks. I have the factory tilt in my 71 C-10 that I took out of a Blazer 30+ years ago and it had the red knob.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Hazard Switch

Andy, just because your 2 tilts have the red hazard knobs doesn't mean that they came that way from the factory! Let's do a poll of everyone that's had a factory tilt column and you will see that from the factory they used the black hazard knobs. I've had about a 100 tilt columns and at least 95 of them had black knobs on them.

What ever man. I just know they came with them. I grew up riding in them and the black ones never came in these. Unless they were motor homes are vans. The c-10 had the red ones. My dad drove these trucks all my life and never saw a 72 -71 with a black e switch...never.
Pole doesn't prove anything except what people believe, just like the brake pedal having 2 holes in it. Never happened from the factory.
