Engine starts then dies...

Alright guys little help here, 78 c10 LS1 swap just finishing the my fuel lines with brand new Dorman 16gal gas tank and AcDelco 381 electric in tank fuel pump. The engine cranks starts but then dies after a few secs of idle. I cleaned the fuel filter and lines everything good but still same problem so Two things it could be that I could think off and that’s...

1.Perhaps getting a fuel filter/regulator?
2. Not enough fuel in gas tank since I just put $20.00 which was 5gals to get it going and out the garage fill up the rest there... I’m starting to think it’s very low fuel as I write this. Any help would be appreciated thanks..

How long is a few seconds? If it’s only 2 seconds, your tuner forgot to turn vats off.

Can you install a fuel pressure gauge and see fuel pressure when it shuts off.

Re: Engine starts then dies...

Yes about 2 seconds I’d say. Thing is before the dorman gas tank I was running the tank out of a 98 camaro which was the donor car I had it back of the bed ran fine but not safe so I switch to a dorman gas tank for a 87 r10 with a built in sump so I know the vats cant be the problem. I’ll have to check with a fuel pressure gauge like you said. Thank you!

Re: Engine starts then dies...

How is your fuel system plumbed? If you were using the Camaro tank and pump, it was internally regulated, where as what you have now probably isn't. are you using a Corvette filter/regulator?

Re: Engine starts then dies...

Your right Ls1Nova71 I over looked that part on the filter/regulator because I don’t have it on this fuel system I just kept the T line but never did add the filter/regulator and I hope that might be the problem.

Re: Engine starts then dies...

Yes, this is definitely your problem, you cant just run the T, you will need the Corvette filter and run the return to the tank.
