Re: Project: "No Name"

Well, the past few weekends have made progress on my 70 while I've also been helping my old man with his 66. Last weekend, I was able to go watch the new 496 get dyno'd, brought it home, then put it in the hole today.
Bolted up my newly built TH400 and a custom tranny crossmember, I ordered online.

Little by little, shes coming together!

Re: Project: "No Name"

Yeah, I'm considering going ahead and narrowing the rear and putting some bigger meats under there, but I just wanna get it cruising again. It's been torn down for almost 10 years now......

Re: Project: "No Name"

I've got 315/35s on all 4 corners. The rear does have wider tubs, but I almost think that it isn't required at the current size. I have a few extra inches on the inner side too (in part due to the tubs), so you can get a pretty thick tire back there on a fleet without touching the rear.

Of course, it also depends on what suspension you're running out back, and if it's inboard or outboard.

Re: Project: "No Name"

When I tried to install the radiator and electric fans, they didnt fit due to the serpentine kit. Last night, I reverse the fan blades and installed the fans on the front of the radiator to be "push" style instead.

Drop it in the hole and I cant say how perfect the fit was. There was literally 1/8th of an inch on the left and right of the radiator support to spare. Couldnt be happier with the fit and finish!

Re: Project: "No Name"

Placed the order today for all of the plumbing items needed for the build, including: fuel lines, fuel fitting, fuel pump, fuel filter, power steering lines, tranny lines, and radiator hoses. Once those items come in, all I have left to buy is seats and wheels/tires.

Since I got the motor and tranny installed, the truck is now backed into the garage and ready to go on jackstands so we can get the Willwood disc brake kit installed.

A lot of work coming up in the next few weeks!

Re: Project: "No Name"

Took off the factory panhard bar, removed the old 6 lug axles, put the new 5 lug Mosers in, installed the new cover and filled up with fresh fluids. Gonna try to get started on the Willwood rear discs tomorrow night.

Re: Project: "No Name"

Well, got the motor fired in the truck for the first time since I broke it in on the dyno about 4 months ago. It is a real humbling time when you can watch all your hard work pay off in the turn of a key......

In the past 4 months, I’ve installed brake lines, Willwood brake kits, complete wiring harness, axles, 5 lug sway, 5/7 drop, Dakota guages, transmission lines, radiator hoses, power steering lines, MSD box and coil, radiator and electric fans, relay wiring kit for fans, serpentine kit, fuel pumps and filters, etc.

With two pumps on the pedal to prime the carb, and one turn of the key, the beast came to life! She ran great, great oil pressure, no leaks anywhere, got to 185 degrees, fans kicked on, cooled it down to 175 and shut off, etc.

Such a great feeling seeing no issues from the work you put in over the past 4 months!

I’ve got the seats and door panels ordered as well as wheels and tires arriving Friday of this week. A meter of a month, and she will be on the road!!!!!!

If I can find out how to post a video, I’ll post some start up videos.....

Congratulations!!!

From what I know about posting videos, I think you upload it to YouTube first, then copy the address. Create a post here and scroll down a bit and click the "manage attachments" button, then paste that address where you would normally add pics.
