Re: Project “Double Tap” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

Thanks everybody.

Not as much progress today. Got the grille polished up, headlight bezels painted, and removed the bumper for prep. Got a tinted rear glass in hand, got a lead on a set of stainless mirrors, and started cleaning the seat.

Got the build sheet out of the seat. It’s extra crispy.

Really dig both of your builds man. I really like the period correct CB radio too, I had a similar one in my 67 back when I bought the truck the first time. That CB was a lot of fun for us back in the day. Be interesting to see what kids today think about them!

Not much to see yet, but they are waiting patiently for their turn. I’m trying to find some used 225/70R19.5’s to replace the 8R’s.

I'm in to watch this. That is one nice truck and a Smart 6 yr old. I like that the only pass through was the window.

I'm just thinking out loud, to hopefully be helpful....THose 19.5's are not terribly common. Go to Walmart.com, plug in your tire size in the search box. THey will list every brand of tire they can get in that size. THe range in prices can be huge. They will have them shipped direct to your closest Wal Mart for free...might take a few days...

A used tire over 4 years old can be more of a liability than an economical purchase...

Very, very nice one ton, keep up the great work!!!

DO these one tons with 350's have 4 barrel carbs? or 2 barrel's?

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like they do have some reasonably priced tires (although I've never heard of the brands).

This one has a 4-barrel quadrajet. Not sure if it's factory or not.

Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

I finally got my hands on some nice DF2 mirrors (from forum member burnem). Polished them up with some CLR and 0000 steel wool. I cleaned up the original hardware too. Details details!

The mirrors weren't cheap, but worth every penny for the screw holes to line up PERFECTLY...

They are still out there, but these days you have to pay for them, or drive a thousand miles, or both...

I think the bumper came out pretty nice. It looks a bit odd though with the white wheels still on there.

Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

I decided this truck needs some clear coat. So I'm getting it prepped for a friend to spray it for me next weekend. I filled in a few holes and will be trying to color match those spots (both fenders and each side of the wiper cowl). I'm a little nervous about it, but the areas are pretty small. It can't be worse than the holes the PO drilled.

Re: Project “Blue Bomb” (rebirth of a 1970 c30)

Are there any tricks or certain products that need to be used to get this much gloss with a clear coat? Recommended number of coats? Or is it pretty basic.

This is just wet after prepping and cleaning...

I got it home. I am grinning ear to ear! Overall the clear coat is not perfect. It's probably a 5-footer. But the blue touch ups are amazing! I seriously can't even find where the edges are. What do you guys think?
