Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

I got a little tired of the top looking like total garbage and it doesn't take a lot of time to make it look decent, so the top got a "quickie."

Collecting more parts for the 5 speed swap. BlueX hooked me up with a set of pedals. I have everything but the hydraulic clutch for the firewall, which I plan on getting Captain Fab's kit.

I hope to start back on the truck this winter. Been having too much fun driving her to tear her apart.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Thanks guys!

The vintage air thread is definitely a little "out of date" as VA sells all of their kits as electronic now (no more cables to the dash), and the hoses come out of the cab a little different, but same idea. I installed one of the "newer" electronic kits in my 65 Mustang.

I had new windows installed in the house. Hail damage paid for 8 of 18, house is 17 years old, so we decided to have the entire house done. We bought a much higher quality window this time around and I worked out a deal that if I repainted the window jams and sills, and if I installed 6 of the windows myself (I had them do all the insurance windows and all the 2nd story, which left the 4 along the front under the porch and the two garage windows) that really stretched the insurance $ and were able to have everything done for $3,300 after insurance. Pretty happy about that, but it's taken up a lot of my time. ALL windows are now installed and I have most of the jams redone. I also finished our master bath remodel this weekend... SO, I hope to have updates on the truck soon....

Nice work! Are those clips easy to work with? I'm tempted to install a toolbox door on my bedside...just a bit timid to cut out such a big section.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

They're neat clips if you have backside access. You can also use them without backside access, but its a little trickier and you need to be able to move the panel around to get the little bars in the back to fall out.

Heat sucks. I warped the area around the sidemarker filling them in (like... BAD many months ago)... ironically, not from welding, but from grinding heat. I'm pretty sure I have some form of ADD and have a hard time going slow. I did MUCH better with this patch! I guess it's going to work out though, because I got the whole end section of that green patch (was a longbed). It turns out my taillight housing has a lot more rust than I would like, so I'm going to cut out and replace the back 8-10" of the bed too.

It's a learning process. I think I paid $350 for the complete bed and another +/-$100 for the patches. I should have a decent "original" bed without too much filler when I'm done... fingers crossed.

I could just buy new bedsides, but side by side, the curves just don't look right at the bodyline and around the wheel well to me.

I am late as usual but I spent some time this morning reading through your build and of course I dig it. Cool truck and lots of good info.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Don't worry about being late, I'm already a couple years behind schedule on this one. At least I've been driving it all that time.

Made some more purchases. Kinda can't help myself. I think the bedsides are better than what I have. They still need quite a bit of work though. The front fenders are really nice, PS needs typical cup, but they came with a new one already which was nice.

I've also spent the past month+ just cleaning my garage out so I can use it again. It was pretty bad. In doing so, I was able to get my crate engine up on the stand and somewhat ready for assembly.

Racing along at a snails pace...

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Just realized I don't have any recent pics with the caps and rings on the wheels.

A few of the incredibly rare 4" snowfall we got back in early January. One from getting the Christmas Tree from a couple hours away in NC in November, and one from Sept/Oct for a local show where I somehow placed in the truck section.

Same here! You'll find them both in the spring with the lawnmower. I'd mow that area with the chute facing the field for a while!

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

So, I had one hell of a mess on my hands and my garage was absolutely unusable in it's current state. I had to kick my 67 bird outside. It's under a good quality cover until I can work on it in 10 years :P

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

I added cabinets, built a bench, painted it blue and hung up a ton of signs I've been collecting for years. The area that's still white is because I need to have an electrician add a sub panel so I can add a couple more outlets and a 220 plug for my compressor.

I'm still cleaning it out and up, but I saw the weather was going to be in the 70s this weekend and I just couldn't pass up a weekend to finally work on the truck bed. I did clean up a little between welding/grinding sessions.

So, I bought this bed floor like 6 or 7 years ago. It's STUPID nice. Because it was a longbed no one wanted it. I think I gave like $150 for it.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

But I needed something to build the bed on. So I built a set of bad ass saw horses yesterday. I wanted them to be strong so they could hold a complete bed for a year or two?

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

You forget how heavy some of this crap is until you have to drag it halfway across the yard, stand it up, lift it 2' up the back door step, somehow get it in the garage, then somehow get it on saw horses. Still not quite sure how I managed it.

Didn't take any pics, but I have an absolute garbage shortbed floor I saved to double check all my measurements. It's completely barrel rolled and all the braces are rusty as crap, I wouldn't even use it on a rusty shop truck.

Basically, they're exactly the same, except there is an extra brace "in the middle" of each section you need to cut out, 12" in the front, 8" in the back. When you remove the "middle" all the braces line up exactly like they should on a shorty.

I measured SOOOOO many times!
