Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

A lot of guys will run a door in the bed, which will give them access to the filler cap on the tank. Or have a filler cap directly on the bed floor that is tied right into the filler of the tank.

Here is the Boyd tank.

Some filler ideas...

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

depends on the tank just how you fit it.

Search this site for more info. there are several threads dealing with how, and where and the types of tanks available. All very good info.
It not a big job, but will take prob. a weekend to do. Good luck.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

Here in sunny Oregon (not) we cannot pump our own gas. Someone leaning over the side of my truck to fill my tank doesn't thrill me so I installed mine as shown.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

I made a filler pipe to stick the cap in the left rear corner of the bed floor , that way the bed floor is still useable , without going thru the bed side , filler , or taillight.

Do you have any pics of this set up? It sounds like that you did it the way I've been thinking about.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

Heres mine made from a race car latch, hinge and steel plate. the bed patch in front of the fuel door is for fuel line and in tank fuel pump access. Homemade alum tank with vented Speedway sprint car cap and bung.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

cleanfreak.
Thanks. That's almost identical to what I was thinking. The only difference I was thinking about mounting the filler higher in the bed. My way is a little more clunky looking. My other idea is to do a flush mount gas cap (from a custom motorcycle) in the stake hole. I can't make up my mind.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

If I would change any thing , I would raise the cap a bit. It fills well , but the fuel splashes back a bit if it isn't angled perfect. Another 12" , angled cap towards the inside , might work better.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. I think what you did is cleaner looking but up higher is a little more practical. Hopefully I can get to somewhere that I can start that project and I'll post up my pics. It's kinda hard to work on the truck in a hotel parking lot.

Re: rear mounted Fuel tank?

I don't care for any of the in bed fill location Ideas, and most of the side fill have been kinda crude looking (my opinion) except the nice fill door, body & paint work shown. Just a lot of work though.

I was at a local Hot Rod shop the other day and the Shop Manager swore there's a modifier kit he saw that uses the rear side marker light as the fuel filler access door. He said you push in on it and it pops open (outward).

I'm pressing him to find the info on it because that might push me over the top to doing a tank relocation myself.

Yes I know their is no cap, but if you have some wheel gap to play with you can't see that at all
