I just purchased what was advertised as a 1967 C-10 with I6.

After looking through the site here, I found that the VIN didn't have the right amount of letters/character...it has a Kentucky issued VIN plate in the door jam, held on with a single screw (which I'm questioning the legality of).

I looked inside the glove box door and found a vin of CE148Fserial# which I decipher as a 1948 pickup with a V-8 gasoline powered engine (if the glove box is original)

Below the VIN in the glove box is a list of option codes and the explanations for those codes, but on none of the 5 codes/ecplanations are all lines legible...I'm wondering if anyone knows what the codes mean?

450???-Dark Blue (I get this one)
4V37EA- (illegible explanation)
4604JA- (illegible explanation)
4U63HA- (illegible explanation)
4G60AB- (illegible explanation)

Engine casting numbers: 3921968 (passenger side middle of block)

Any help on the codes & engine casting #'s would be greatly appreciated, and advise/ideas on the VIN ?

What is the vin number on the title? Then on the top of the frame on the drivers side above the engine mount or near that area is the vin number stamped. In larger characters. See if them match up. as the same. Sounds like the door tag has been changed and probably used to title another vehicle . Figure it out befor ya get to far down the road with it. . Keep us posted. Is intresting .

looks like 69 or 70 truck to me ,,i have had a truck that i had the same problem with and i had to get a title search for it so i could just register it in Calif. look along the frame rail, on the drivers side next to the engine near the steering shaft and clean it off real good and you should find some numbers there to tell you what you might have. but i know for sure it's not a 48 truck.

CE148F....we need the rest of the VIN to decipher it. It starts off on the right track to a 1967 truck. There is a VIN code decipher chart here on the board, I will try to locate it and post it here for you.

The grill looks like a 69, the cab looks like a 67. The box is 68-72. See if you can find the numbers on the frame.

Well, that's a 69-72 at minimum with a 69-70 grille (69 insert) Sidemarkers could be from 69-72. But definitely not 67 unless the bed and fenders have been changed.

The VIN on the Title (which reads for a 1967 C-10 6cyl) is the same as the Vin on the Kentucky Assigned Identification Plate (the one being held on with a crew in the old rivet hole on the door jam)

I can't find a number on the top of the frame near the drivers side engine mount, maybe I didn't clean it well enough?

I'm going to get a temp tag tomorrow so that Tuesday I can drive it to the Theft and Loss division of NC DMV (required for vehicles over 25 yrs. old). They take pictures, and check numbers, so I guess I'll know then, huh? I have the clear title, stamped by a Notary and signed by the previous owner...I just emailed him today to find out more about the trucks (GUS is his name) history.

Sorry, meant 1968, my car is a 1948, just a typo...

Engine casting numbers: 3921968 (passenger side middle of block)

Found this to be a 64-76 Chevy/Olds 6 cylinder with 230-250cid

Those pics were taken in the previous owners driveway, when my folks took it for a test drive for me...Kentucky only has a rear plate, anything on the front is ignored, in this case he had a vintage KY plate on the front

Going to go clean the frame better right now, post when I find something.

Just received this email from the previous owner:

"No, the trucks not a salvage title. The original title was lost many years ago, and the owner before me aplied for a new title, and vin tag because the old vin tag was unreadable. The glove box door is off a 1968. Gus is made of many trucks. Everytime a better part came along, Gus got it. It's a 67. 1967 is the only year that had the small back window. The little bit of history I know about Gus is that I've had it almost 2 years. The man before me had it less than a year. He was 70 years old and couldn't handle no power steering. Before him, the truck sat in front of a old body shop and garage for at least 10 years. Since it left that old body shop, the only thing that is still on the truck from then is the cab, and frame. It will take a bit to get use to the choke and how you drive it. You can't just let off the gas and come to a complete stop. That will flud it. He makes very slow stops and take offs. The posi jumps in right away, so be careful in the rain and snow."

Just found the frame stamped as 7Z100490...very interesting, I guess if NC gives me a title I'll know that nothing is wrong?

CS147Z100490... this makes it a very very early 67, most likely built in the summer of 66. That is possibly the oldest 67 on here... it was the 490th off the assembly line in Freemont. (califorrnia I think?) That is most likely the first week of production.
The problem you may have, is you have no documentation of the VIN tag being swapped out. If they have any issues with it tell them to call kentucky since you say it looks like a state issued plate.
I'm curiouse on how the old VIN plate was unreadable... it was supposed to be 2 plates that had only embossed numbers and letters. Nothing was painted/printed on there.
Either way, if they give you crap, show them the frame rail that you cleaned up, and the fact that the number on the state issued plate and the title all match. I would tripple check it one number/letter at a time and make 100% sure they do. My '70 one ton's frame is one chassis older than the cab. The frame reads 0B160292, while the title has 0B160293. I figure they dropped a cab on the assembly line, or there was a defective cab found, and the numbers were off for a short bit till one end of the line got ahold of the other end of the line and told them to skip a number.

That is possibly the oldest 67 on here... it was the 490th off the assembly line in Freemont. (califorrnia I think?) That is most likely the first week of production. The problem you may have, is you have no documentation of the VIN tag being swapped out. If they have any issues with it tell them to call kentucky since you say it looks like a state issued plate. I'm curiouse on how the old VIN plate was unreadable... it was supposed to be 2 plates that had only embossed numbers and letters. Nothing was painted/printed on there. Either way, if they give you crap, show them the frame rail that you cleaned up, and the fact that the number on the state issued plate and the title all match. I would tripple check it one number/letter at a time and make 100% sure they do. My '70 one ton's frame is one chassis older than the cab. The frame reads 0B160292, while the title has 0B160293. I figure they dropped a cab on the assembly line, or there was a defective cab found, and the numbers were off for a short bit till one end of the line got ahold of the other end of the line and told them to skip a number.
