70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

I just got a 70 Chevy CST/C30 4x4 camper that has a 396, 4 speed, 205 t-case, A/C, factory tach dash, etc, on a 133" wheelbase. It has only 37,591 miles on it. I did a lot of mechanical labor on my friend's 78 Chevy 4x4 camper special in trade for this camper. He hasn't cleaned his stuff out of it yet though.

I really don't need a camper, so I'm thinking of converting it into a flatbed pickup or find a long box to put onto it.

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

Wow,this truck is so cool !
The winch bumper is nice.

This would make an awesome camping truck but as you said,it would look great with a longhorn bed too.

Congrats to to you.

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

Upon further investigation, the camper floor in the over hang on top of the cab is sagging and almost touching the cab roof, so the camper will be coming off. Once I get the camper off the frame, I'm going to graph in the missing center section of back cab wall and install a slider rear window.

Nice. Can we get a pic of the inside of the glovebox door? I am curious how it started life. Enjoy that one!

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

Wow, it never ceases to amaze me what trucks are still to there and for this truck to have A/C, tach and big block that is just real cool. Not trying to be the devils advocate here but from what I have heard and read over the years weren't 4 x 4 's just available with a small block or maybe that didn't apply to C30's.....

Looks like the flatbed is already there under the camper unit judging by the utility boxes and rear step bumper. Nice find.

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

I'm either going to install a flatbed that I already have on another rig, or I'm going to shorten the wheelbase down to the standard long bed wheelbase. I doubt there are any longhorn beds available anywhere without costing way too much money, so I don't see that as an option.

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

I would entertain the idea of leaving it as a camper, but I already have a Cummins diesel 4x4 quad cab pickup that gets 20 mpg to go hunting in.

I did get a picture of the glovebox door today though. The original owner bought it as a C30 cab and chassis, and then had it converted to 4wd and built the camper on it.

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

liftmeup,

You're a long ways away from Oregon, plus this rig has the big block, 4 speed, cruise, A/C, factory tach, CST package on only 37,591 original miles.

Here's a longhorn bed near me for sale from a cst camper truck, still has original paint on bed boards.

That's one heck of a rig you have there. Too bad the camper is sagging.

Re: 70 Chevy CST/C30 camper

Very cool truck, I personally would get a longhorn bed, they can be found from time to time, especially on the west coast. It will be a lot of work to shorten and probably take many hours. Then it will ride rougher as a 127 WB and be less unique than a 133WB 4x4. There have been several longhorns bought for the cab and front clip for a swb build, then the beds have been sold. Many longhorns lived a more cushy life as camper trucks and they unfortunately turn into cab and front clip donors.
