$$$ Deal on Unity spotlight, Post some pics of your spotlight truck!!

I have been playing with the idea of installing a pillar post Unity spotlight, But I always was put off by buying a used one from ebay due to unknown usage/ware issues and the cost for a new one ($300) from Unity was a little to much for me to consider.
So every now and again I take a peek to see if I can find one that I can afford. Today was the day!! It seems that Unity has a "store front" on Amazon.com and the spotlight for 67-72chevy/gmc trucks (model number 225A-U-I) is selling for $137.55.. This is not a knock off or a used spotlight nor is is it sold from a second vender.. This is a new unit sold from Unity through Amazon.com So If you want one click the link OR EVEN BETTER IF YOU HAVE A SPOTLIGHT INSTALLED ON YOUR TRUCK THROW UP A PICTURE!! Gotta see those spotlight trucks!!!!
Link for spotlight http://www.amazon.com/Unity-225A-U-I-Diameter-Post... http://www.amazon.com/Unity-225A-U-I-Diameter-Post...
Forgot to mention the mount is not included, See link for mount pricing and info http://www.unityusa.com/202-Installation-Kit_p_848.html

I've taken several off of old cop cars at the junkyard. I think 1 was bad? They were like $5...worth a try?

If you give it a try make sure you have the proper mount as they are vehicle specific also check the exposed shaft length, The ones for our trucks are 6 1/2 inches from head housing to the handle housing.

I like how it looks especially on a GMC.. I was curious if there is anything you do or don't like about it?? Does the handle on the inside get in the way at all? Does it throw a decent beam etc etc.. Any input would be great.. Thanks

I'm currently rebuilding the one off of my dually. I had to order a few little things from Unity, which I'm waiting on now. They are very simple and sturdy. As cheap as parts are, I wouldn't hesitate to but a used one in unknown condition.

I know nothing about these, but here's one that's been on Phoenix Craigslist for almost a month. Says S6 on it. Looks like it's in great shape. Not mine.

Re: $$$ Deal on Unity spotlight, Post some pics of your spotlight truck!!

At some point in it's life, my Panel had spots on both sides. The holes in the pillars are bondo'ed over (on the outside only) but all the others are still there. It would probably easier to replace them than to permanently and correctly fix the holes.

What were the purpose of these? Check on the cows at night?

Re: $$$ Deal on Unity spotlight, Post some pics of your spotlight truck!!

My truck was originally purchased and outfitted by the local electric company. They used it for seeing electrical poles and transformers off the road.

In my case, I'm going to be using it to....check on my cows at night. So, fortunately it was already installed on my truck when I got it.

My truck had one on it originally. We used it for hunting critter's at night put's off a really good beam of light. Unfortunately back when Montana's speed limit was reasonable and prudent I was cruising home one time rather "reasonably" and the spotlight caught a bird and inverted the back of it.

That's the one thing I am a little worried about.. I live in a rural area with a few outlaws that love to go hunting at night (spotlighting) which is very illegal in NYS, I don't want to attract unwanted attention!!!

Mine doesn't work but the interior handle doesn't bother me were its at. I have a newer one that I took off a city truck that I plan to use for parts on it but just haven't ever messed with it

FWIW, Advanced Plating quoted me $400 to replate one, but it "could be more" when they see it in person. So a new one's not a bad deal!

I think almost all of them are stainless so all you should have to do is polish it (or have it polished)

Maybe that is just the older ones, not sure.

Re: $$$ Deal on Unity spotlight, Post some pics of your spotlight truck!!

I bought one from a member when he was taking it off of his '70. It's in good working order, still looks great, and I know it will fit. I thought the housing was stainless, but the product description in the link provided by the thread starter states chrome plated shell. According to TX Fireman parts are cheap. Depending on condition of all chromed pieces, maybe just replacing the ones with bad chrome is an option

I'm not a GMC guy but dang I like that truck! Mine was a fire truck too. Unfortunately it rains tree limbs in Florida and mine suffered a fatal blow. I would like to replace it some day though.
I guess I might be a closet GMC guy.
