Will These Valve Covers Clear Roller Rockers?

I have a set of vintage Mickey Thompson aluminum valve covers that came on my c20 when I bought it. When I refreshed the 454 I didn't have time to restore the covers and put them back on. Now I have time and before I restore the covers I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if these are tall enough to clear roller rockers. Yeah I know I could take one of my valve covers off and test fit them but the covers that are currently on the engine are deformed and slightly leak so I don't want to risk deforming them more before I have the
M/T covers restored. Also, do I need the drippers with roller rockers?

Here are some pics:

I can’t say definitively they will, but IME, Mickey Thompson did not make a short or stock heigh valve cover so I think it is a reasonable gamble you would have no issues.

Do those covers have drippers in them? If so, that COULD be an issue.

Yeah they have drippers in them. In the picture with the part number you can see one of them directly above the part number. I am not opposed to cutting them off if they are in the way.

I would think that they would clear but if not, there used to be some spacers that the racers used to raise the cover up to clear. The up side is you get to keep the covers. The down side is you use twice the gaskets and another place that could potentially leak.

.
If you find they are real close, get a set of Fel-Pro gaskets like their "one piece" oil pan unit. They are thick and have metal sleeves at each stud point so there is very little smashing of the gasket. Should give you an extra bit of clearance.

Spendy but you can reuse them over and over!

Re: Will These Valve Covers Clear Roller Rockers?

On my 454 with M/T covers and Harland sharp rollers the number 1 and number 2 rocker hit the edge of the covers I had to grind just a touch of corner on those two rockers. I ran it for years and was not easy on the motor the whole time I had it.And yes I had to clip the drippers.

Re: Will These Valve Covers Clear Roller Rockers?

I bolted MT covers with Howard Cams roller rockers. They bolted down. I thought they cleared. Started up the motor and heard all hell braking loose for a couple of seconds. Before I tuned off the engine, it got quiet. I took off one side of the valve cover and every dripper was broken off. Luckily I found all the drippers before they wound up down in the engine. Took off the other valve cover and they were also broken off. I ground down smooth what was left of the drippers and reinstalled the covers never to have any more problems.

Re: Will These Valve Covers Clear Roller Rockers?

Thanks for all the info. I'll go ahead and restore these covers and cut the drippers off. I have seen those fel-pro gaskets before but I have never shelled out the coin for them. I might have to give them a shot. Thanks again everyone.

I had the same problem with my rockers. When I was installing them, I came across two rockers that were rounded on one side. At first, I thought they were defected rockers. Then common sense kicked in. There was nothing about these two rockers in the instructions.
