window seals replacement sequence

At what point do you install new window seals when putting your windows back in doors?
I have everything back in place (glass and vent window)and tried to install the seals (inner and outer), but I not sure this is the correct sequence.
They seem too long also, do they need to be trimmed or does the extra section fit between the vent window post and the door?
Thanks
