Re: Dads 1966 C-10

Tailgate was just painted factory dark yellow with ivory letters. Those letters are not decals they were painted first then they were taped off. Once the body color was sprayed the whole tailgate was cleared

Header panel and grille together. My dad picked up this set of Cragar S/S wheels and nearly brand new set of Michelin tires for 500. What a score

Re: Dads 1966 C-10

Went to dads on Sunday and continued where I left off. LS harness is now completed and it’s now standalone. I converted the main cab harness to accept the gauge cluster since the truck originally had warning lights and the harness is now installed. My dad picked up a fuel pump because the late 80’s pump I. The donor fuel tanks was for throttle body injection. I turned the key and the 5.3 busted right off. Wheels installed

Hole cut in the shroud for the electric fan. I wired the two speed fan to the pcm so the fan will switch on and off as needed. Transmission cooler has been mounted

Interior shots: first picture is a 66 cluster I put together for dad. His truck had warning lights originally. I also modified the original main harness and dash harness to work with the cluster. New steering wheel installed. New black visors.

Dad is back at it again. He painted the bed panels, and decided to use bed liner for the inside of the bed. Oak wood floor and stainless hardware. Bed is taking shape. Wiring installed and lights were tested

Re: Dads 1966 C-10

Went to dads last Saturday to work out some kinks in the temp gauge. Helped him install the hood. We fired it up and let it warm up to operating temperature and the temp gauge is straight up dead center at 198 degees. I check the 2 speed electric fan for operation. The fan turns on at low speed at 198 and high speed At 201. As the engine cools down high speed turns off at 198 and low speed turns off at 194. It was 95! degrees in the shop and at idle the engine stayed between 194-198 without fail even with the hood closed.

Re: Dads 1966 C-10

Cab forward is done. But we found an issue with the rear axle assembly. First it has 2.56 gear set in it and in 4th gear (overdrive) it will run 1,400 rpm at 70MPH. This is a 10 bolt 8.5 out of a 1984 Chevy Silverado so that should explain the gear set. Take off and acceleration will be sluggish. Second the spider gears are toast so either a rebuild is in order or find a donor. We decided on either 3.73 gears which is 70 MPH @ 2200RPM or 3.55 gears that will be 1,900 there abouts @70MPH. My dad said he wants to finish up the rear axle and replace the shocks before installing the bed

Re: Dads 1966 C-10

Coming along very nicely. Personally I would go with 3.73's

Re: Dads 1966 C-10

Went up and helped my dad fix the gas gauge so we could put the bed on. He had already relocated the gas tank under the bed of the truck so the gauge needed to be fixed first. So other than a radio the truck is ready. My dad decided he wants to go with steel wheels painted yellow with factory white hubcaps. It will look bone stock And will be such a sleeper
