Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

The old bike parts guy, Jesse, was between me and that '27 Chevy. I got to look at that all weekend. That thing is impeccable. Just perfect

My digs for a few days. My friend left on Thursday, so I pulled the Suburban in:

Old cars. That little T speedster was cool as heck! It had all the race performance work done to it from juice brakes off of something and bigger non-juice 11" Chevy brakes on rear. Motor was all cammed, etc:

I thought that was it for pictures, but I almost forgot the other old Chevrolet convertible I had to look at across from me the whole time. Torture, what a fine fine Corvette. I had bad luck with batteries, so that's it.

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

Ride could have been better, it was all hiway. Heading south down US15 it's a nice 4-lane divided hiway the rest of the way home. I saw these hand painted "Packard Trucks" signs to lead people into a meet. I followed them back this road a few miles heading onto the girth of the mountain. The meet is tomorrow, as sign at the place said. This is in apple orchard country and the meet is on a small farm cut out of the orchards. It was a little village at a crossroad. I hung a left just past that place and I guess the barn by the road with a row of garage doors was the same property. Doors were up, I glanced a Studebaker or two, a guy or two moving around in one of the bays and a guy just relaxing in a chair out in front looking toward the mountain. The light was getting low, I was just pokin' along, the guy waved, and it was all I could do to just keep heading down the road. I should have stopped, if not only to ask about the meet. I bet that would be some kind of experience to tell about. As you can see from this thread, I've been goofing off every weekend for a month or more. I need to get stuff done right here at home, as well as get some jobs rolling. But this is how it's been. Next weekend is Jalopyrama, which is only up the road 15-20 minutes from me. It's an old school rod & custom show I always go to. It's only Saturday and done by 3-4. After that, that's it for the winter.

Sales went pretty good. You can see I only brought a small variety. This is the place to sell the good stuff. I think the $70 sandblasted/epoxy primed hood hinges were the cheapest thing I had. I had limited space just squeezing my two 8' tables with a make shift shelf on one. Chuck brought two Cushmans and sold the other one while I was waiting for him to run my sticker out. It was funny, saw the whole thing because we are in the row next to the main road in, facing it. So, I pull over where he can see me, he walks around through a gate, and rides in. I was waiting and waiting. The three guys were eye f...uh. Shi-oot! I mean. Darn!! Almost said it anyway. As I was saying, these guys were really looking it over and I was really waiting, like 1/2 an hour. Here I was there but not there. Could even see where I was going to be. Anyway, these guys from Belgium did buy it, so it was all worthwhile. That's what I kept saying to myself, "I hope you're going to buy it after all this looking".

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

Here is the Tonka pickup I customized that a guy bought to put on Ebay. He was my first sale, he bought three. The truck is on the shelf in my picture. Looks like he didn't realize that compressor perfectly fits sideways in the bed up front. I had it set beside the truck because people would pick it up and let that fall out onto something, the ground or another truck. It got some chips in the paint thanks to that

Great fun to look at pictures Tim.. all explained very well ..great history with the folks and aunt and uncles homes ,,, never seen a two motor tractor before ,,but my dad had a 40lb Mall ,,rather than lug it any further than he needed he built a two wheeled bicycle cart to move his gas ,wedges .oil and saw around in the woods when he was cutting pulp wood..

I used to a few years ago . This thread is a throw back to '17. I posted a link in a thread yesterday in a conversation about riding backroads. I forgot it went on for about a month more of weekend adventures. Sept/Oct are always full of good things it seems.

I'll have something to report about today, either here or somewhere else. I'm getting a visit from a fellow member of this site. An East meets West sort of thing . House is a mess but foggit

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

Same here. I'm glad it was brought back. I thought about checking out that steam power show again this year, then decided to stay home and keep chipping away at projects.

I hung out with Chevyland today. Sorry no pictures. We took a ride around the countryside., grabbed some lunch, visited Gettysburg, more riding around the countryside back to my place. His wife had business in Washington, DC and he tagged along, had today free. It was great to meet him and chit the chat.

How about that? Right down in the heart of the Nation's Capitol in good weather and all. No mask required! Jefferson was a great man of vision

It was nice meeting you, too. I'm now remembering the tail ends to some of the stories I told yesterday. Time like that, just riding and talking, things tend to get run together. "Oh look at that!"
Enjoy the sights of DC.

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

I really should go sometime. I'm about an hour away and it might as well be 1,000. I would enjoy seeing the Smithsonian Museum(s). I believe it has been since '76 that I've been down to that area. I went to see the fireworks at the Washington Monument for the Bicentennial celebration. Boy were the times different back then. My girlfriend and I hitchhiked down with a backpack and tent. It was crowded down there but not like today. We sat at an outside cafe, saw the fireworks from the grounds around the monument, then hitched a ride in the bed of a pickup over to Georgetown. We went into The Cellar Door and listened to live music, then went along the C&O Canal, which is right there, and pitched the tent. Slept there safely all night.

I'm more of a get away from it guy now. Eric and I checked out some MD/PA countryside, Gettysburg, and ended up at High Rock on South Mountain. I took one picture the whole day.

Too bad the old observation stand wasn't still there. But I guess it wouldn't really change the view all that much. What's another 20-30'?

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

That's the same as I'm thinking, Friday over into Saturday. I haven't talked to Jason who I usually team up with. This year is funny. Like at this point I don't really care, but I know I want to go and will regret not going. I've been working around here when I should be out making money. I have work to start that I really should not put off till after Carlisle. So that's why I figure get there on Friday... or so I say as it stands. You have my number, I have yours. We'll meet up somehow. I hope Jason did keep the spots we had last year though.

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

I'll catch you next time around. Jason is too busy. I'm broke for buying, can't really set up to sell just a little... maybe, and I can make money here. I may go Friday anyway. It depends on how this work I plan to get started is. I'll talk to her today, maybe get something started, work tomorrow, and have to see if it makes sense to bug out that early on the job. I had an old feller (active 93) owing me for work I did a while ago, over a month. I finally reached him (leaves his cell phone turned off) and it turns out he was concerned about mailing the check if I wouldn't be home to pull it from the mailbox . He knew I had been out of town a lot since completing his work. Gotta love the old folks, but boy am I low on funds now.

We also have a motorcycle swap meet locally on Sunday and I might just go there to sell some MC parts. Only $25 for a space, set-up before 10, over by early afternoon. I have a lot of related things. Parts, apparel, collectibles I've decided I don't need to hang onto. Time to reduce. I have a little barn to move

Re: Took A Little Ride Last Weekend

I took a little ride last weekend. Went to the ATHS Tri-State Antique Truck Show #16. I rode with my friend in his '58 Reo "calling card". He's a sign painter/pinstriper/ truck letterer/mural artist. It was too damp Saturday after the little shower that passed over the night before, so he did no painting. He usually picks up a couple few small jobs while there.

Here's the link to a thread I posted in "Heavy Haulers":
