wheel size specs. 91 with drop spindles
i have an OLD... stalled project. it is a 91 GMC. i put rocker panels and cab corners in it they are finished new fenders ready to install. box patched and painted. drop spindles in the fronr. rear shackles and hangers in the rear.
the stock wheels seem to hit the a frames. will 80s 15x7 or 8 ralleys solve this? what inexpensi\ive alternatives are there? thanks Last edited by Marty68; 09-30-2020 at 08:17 AM. |

Re: wheel size specs. 91 with drop spindles
The 15x7s might clear. Depending on the drop spindle, the 15x8 may or may not clear. I know it is hit and miss on the pre 88 style trucks and I have heard it is that way on the newer ones also. The older ralleys have less back spacing, so they may clear your a-arms with out mods. Easiest way if you are already looking for new rims is to go 17". Other wise take a grinder and trim/grind the a-arm lip down so it clears the wheels.

Re: wheel size specs. 91 with drop spindles
a arm or knuckle ?
i know of numerous OBS trucks lowered running a 15x7 with no issues. it will be more dependent on back spacing than anything. Second will be diameter. the 8" wheel may have the depth to contact the a arm on turns, but what i see more is contact with the tierod mount... i remember way back, a friend used a lower budget name spindle, bolted on with out issue. i used a belltech, and my toe was way off, as they pulled the tierod mount way in to clear wider wheels. |

The 'van' ralleys clear drop spindles since it wasn't mentioned.
Van ralleys (15x6.5") front, 8" truck ralleys (15x8 in the rear:

good deal, i wouldnt really expect the narrow wheels to have the issues, but rather the wider in a smaller diameter.

So, even larger diameter wheels might have interference issues depending on back-space/offset.

i think the overall relation of Dia to BS is the key as the arm flares to the mounting...basically, it hits further up the arm.
