Keyless entry

My 97 Sierra SLE has just about all options except keyless entry.

I have power door locks, but need the entry key to open the doors.

Is there a keyless entry kit that's easy to install?

I did look under the dash to see if by chance the keyless module is there. Didn't see it. See picture. Maybe it is there. Let me know.

I read that it is located right above the gas pedal

Re: Keyless entry

I don't know of any particular one off the top of my head. I pretty much do not like keyless entry, just a personal thing. You could always check with local stereo;electronics places to see what they recommend.

Re: Keyless entry

Check the RPO code for it. If it's fully loaded it should have it...AO9 it might be..

Re: Keyless entry

If a 97 is like a 96, I believe the door lock receiver is behind the instrument cluster just to the left of the steering column. The easiest way to tell if your truck has the remote receiver is to short pin 4 and pin 8 in the diagnostic connector. If the remote receiver is present this will cause the doors to lock and unlock. Search for instructions to program a remote on the internet and it says to do this. I was told that my 96 Z71 had the remote function when I bought it but it doesn't. I want to add that but got other things to do first.

Re: Keyless entry

Anyone with pictures of this receiver box installed behind the dash? Gives me an idea what to look for. There are a lot of relays, boxes under there.

Re: Keyless entry

I want a remote sensor for my truck too. This is from the 96 service manual but I would think this is the same for a 97. When I get the time I'm going to go to pull-a-part and see if I can find one. My Chevy dealer said the part is no longer available.

That gives me something to look for. But I most likely don't have it as the RPO code is not listed with the other codes.

Re: Keyless entry

Don't have that receiver...soooo, I went and bought a cheap keyless door lock kit.

Now, has anyone installed a universal kit where the truck already has power door locks?

I need to know if the door lock actuators are +pos or -neg activated & where are the wires that I need to tie into with this kit?

Any help please?? Pics would be a great help....

Re: Keyless entry

For those that are wondering about the remote function module and where it’s located for the AU0 code, here you go. It’s not easily accessible but is doable. Mounted on the right side dash support bracket. You need to take the bracket off to get to the plastic push pin that secures it to the bracket.

@ Russell Ashley: This module doesn’t have the two connectors like the manual shows. This came from a 1998 K1500 extended cab. So I think there is a difference.

So it does appear that it changed between 96 and 98 so I think I have to look for a 96 specifically when I go to the Pull-a-Part. I definitely want to add the remote function but got a few other things to deal with first.
