How crazy is my hubby?

So...I've been threatening to post pics, and I hope I've got it figgered out. Here is the '67 K10 that I really think is beyond repair, but the husband is holding out hope. Tell me....should I get him to a therapist ASAP?

Here's the son trying to loosen some bolts. It'll be his truck when completed.

See Shane...I told you!!!

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

You came to the wrong place Lady, where all that messed up here!

Just kidding with you, I have seen guys take alot worse then that truck & turn it into something beautiful & something o be proud of, if he has the skills, & the tools & the initiative, let him have at it, (there's alot worse things he could be doing) I'm sure there's gonna be alot of feedback on this, I hope some really rusty old truck pictures will appear, (before & after pictures)

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

I fixed one much worse than that. I had to replace every piece of sheetmetal except one of the fenders and one door! Their truck still has the rockers in place!!!!! I bought mine for $500 and still don't have $1000 in it. It looks like a great project and it would crush both of your boys if let it go now...LOL!

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

No!, You can treat this without sending him to a therapist. Tell him to do what ever he needs to do to get it looking good. Bring him dinner in the garage, and give him the check book, these things really help with the illness. When he needs help, assist where you can, be supportive, and do not criticize or complain. This will help the healing process. Let him buy tools.

It appears to actually be quite solid. Crazy? I think we all are.

Looks like a sweet truck and a swb step 4x4 is cool in my book. Very cool.

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

HA! EVERY body panel will have to be replaced. After getting back from the Gulf this weekend, he and son finally got the bumper off and removed the front clip. It's been wrecked, but he THINKS he can salvage the frame. We'll probably be looking for a hi-hump cab. It looks good above the windshield, but there's rot under the cowl. Not a pretty site. Rockers are gone...floorboard. But hey...Dad only paid $1 for it.

And I have no say over the checkbook. He owns his own business and I told him his hobbies can't be paid for with the house payment. Anything else is his to support his addictions. And he doesn't buy the tools....he sends ME to buy the tools. "Honey, can you run to Harbor Freight and pick up a floor jack...Honey, can you run to Paul's and get some Oil Dry." I'm just hoping if they do restore it, it'll be "completed" by the time the kid is 16. That'll give 'em a little over 2 years. Took him less than 5 months to switch from gas to diesel engines in his Blackfin last year.

Here's the cab after the marathon evening I spent with Drew taking out seat, getting truck up on stands after moving on the dollies.

Is that really a 67 K10 SWB with panoramic rear window, I6, PB and oil bath cleaner? If so, it's one of probably a scarce few similarly equipped

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

Mine looked worse, rust-wise, when we started. The fact that it appears to be a father/son project makes it better then any therapy money could buy. I say, as long as the bills are paid and there is food on the table, let the boys play....looks like it has a lot of promise, and with two willing parties (your hubby & son) it will be worth it...
And hey...don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. You have an excellent opportunity for some quality family time in the garage here...USE IT...

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

Any short wheel base 4x4 is worth fixin unless it has been cut in to a million pieces. My shortbed 4x4 had a rusted through frame but because of how rare they are I fixed it.Tell your son he has a thumbs up from me for tackeling a project like this one

You sound like my wife, I came home from work one day, she was elbow deep in grease helping my son change plugs in his truck.

Yep. He confirmed (I was talking to him when the post came over). He said he appreciates all the support. I've been trying to get him on to check the site out. I think it'll help him out when the rebuild starts.

And Red....too late! I was out in the shop with Drew while dad was at the gulf fishin. I posted it in "makin' memories". I also got good and dirty last night. My official titles are "parts labeler" and "tool hander". I get to label the zip-lock bags with the part, stick the parts in, and file them away.

Oh! My other title is "Beer Wench" wether it be Coors or Root!

GOOD! Glad to hear it. I would have loved to have the opportunity to rebuild my first truck with my Mom & Dad....it would have been awesome....

Not an auto unless converted. 1970 was first year for automatic tranny 4x4's. It doesn't get any better than a 3 on the tree 4x4!

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

It is 3 on a tree. Hubby tried to show son how to shift it in the pasture. Drew can shift my Wrangler pretty good. But hubby is thinking of changing to automatic after dropping a 350 in. He's also wanting to go back original green, but Drew and I are fighting him tooth and nail about it.

My dad bought it for $1 'cuz a buddy of his just wanted it moved out of his pasture. When Dad moved to NC, he gave us the truck. I was 7 months preggers with Drew when the "Blizzard of '93" hit. This truck was the only thing out on the roads at the time. Hubby loaded me up and out we went. (I HATE cabin fever!!) I think he pulled about 8 vehicles out of drifts/ditches that day. Ahhh....memories!

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

wow, there were more SWB step side 4X4's made in 67 then there SWB fleet side 4X4!!! Who woulda guessed?
1229 step sides verses 1046 fleetsides!

I still say go for it... there's family memories in it already, and more being made every evening.
Some kids only get dad's cussing and complaning as there fond childhood memories. I honestly wish I was your son on this subject.

Re: How crazy is my hubby?

Yes, the education your son is getting will last him a life time,(once he realizes he brought something back to life, from the dead, nothing will look impossible) it may even keep him from driving a ricer when he gets his license. Seriously though, it will end up being one of those "priceless" kinda things. Good Luck.
