Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

I was in my shop a couple days ago and needed something out of my truck, walked out and found two guys looking in my truck, one had the drivers door open and his head inside. I asked them what the hell they were doing and they both just started walking to their beat up 80’s methmobile. Ran back to my shop to grab my phone so I could get a pic of them, they must have ran back to their car which was parked about 100’ away because they were gone by the time I got outside. I live in a pretty small town of about 600 decent people so I usually leave my keys in my truck outside my shop, glad I took them out that day!

I would have just followed them and got the plate number..... They probably thought you were going after your gun.

Few things worse than thieves. Meth-mobile is probably right.

I would have followed them but they were gone, I thought I had time to grab my phone because they were parked so far away and we’re casually strolling towards the car, it was too far to see their plate number.
I won’t be leaving my keys in my truck anymore! Even in my little town the drug addicts are getting worse. Seems like summer brings in a new population of vermin every year!

Keep an eye on you're truck. I'm betting that they will be back!

YES! I had thieves run off of my car three times by a neighbor. They were trying to get my stereo. They kept coming until they got it.

Re: Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

My small down of Dunbarton, NH has a population of around 2500. In response to used needles being found on our dead end road, the police chief last year said that just like any other town, around 3% of the population is addicted to drugs of some kind. We make sure the outside vehicles are locked and the house/garage is secure both at night and when we are away from the property.

I also have 8 security cameras looking over the property and inside the garage.

It is nice to live in the "country", but if anyone wants our stuff they will have to work for it and risk being ID'd by the cameras.

Re: Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

That a close call, glad they didn't make off with it! Damn thieves.... Many years ago I never locked my truck, or anything else for that matter.
Most of the time I left the keys in the truck. Not anymore. Now everything gets locked, all the time.

Re: Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

Glad you happened to walk out and catch them before it was too late.

This reminds me of a time I stopped at a rest area along the NJ Turnpike. I purposely parked my truck way out in the lot by itself to avoid door dings. Luckily I was in and out of the building quick. As I was walking across the lot towards my truck, I'm like WTF!, I park way out there and someone parked right next to me. As I get closer, I see they are still in their SUV, parked close to my passenger door. Suspicious, I walk around the pass. side to check my truck, no obvious damage, so I hop in and head home.
A couple days later I see CHIPS all around the door handle surround, it was at that moment I realize how close it was of them breaking in.
The truck is a '97 Dodge, I come to find that these low life thieves pop the whole door handle surround off, piece of cake with nothing but a screwdriver.

The net, you just never know. ...

You need to let the local authorities know what happened.
My gun would be in a much handier place for quite a while after this ordeal!!!

Those of us unlucky enough to be from the Peoples Republic of California don't have the right to defend our property in that way. I'm right there with you, but it would have just caused even more problems for the guy...

Re: Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

You can buy a recording videocam setup with 4 cameras and everything you need to record the pictures for $200 at Harbor Freight. We bought a manzanita and a desert willow when we converted the front yard to drought-tolerant plants from grass. Next night someone vandalized the manzanita! So I put those cameras up and no more hanky-panky in the neighborhood.

yet one more reason to keep an old, semi-crusty, GM AM radio in there and hide a better stereo (if you wanted one) under the seat. Unless of course the thief is a member here, he'd probably WANT the AM radio instead (just kidding, I'm sure we have none of those miscreants herein).

Re: Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

A few years ago I felt secure starting my truck on cold winter mornings allowing it to warm up and melt the ice and snow off the windshield or leaving it running while running into a store but not now. I live in a tiny town where everyone knows every one, the last few years it’s changed a lot. Seems like there are a lot of 18/25 year olds that have turned to heroin and meth. See a lot of vermin I don’t recognize. Many of the businesses have a hard time finding anyone willing to work, instead they’re out stealing crap to feed their drug addictions. I’ve had one car stolen from me but it was recovered the next day, the CHP had it towed so I had to pay towing fee and two days storage which I thought was ridiculous since they could have simply called me to tell me to pick it up where it was found, one mile from my house!

I’ve got a camera on my house aimed at the street but my shop blocks the view where my truck was parked, ordered an additional camera a couple days ago.

Don't have this problem due to the fact that my rig's usually half torn apart and up on blocks! I drive it 2 months out of the year on average!

House or property protection in Ontario canada is against the law, you are not allowed to protect your property with a weapon. Hand guns are almost illegal. We must let them steal our **** and not hurt them for it. I carry a hammer handle in my truck, it's not considered a weapon.

Or a can of wasp spray - the "shoots 25 feet" ones especially.

Re: Caught two guys trying to steel my truck.

I had a lot of adventures with thieves when I lived in Houston, TX.

Isuzu Trooper (favorite vehicle I have ever owned) - window busted, traded it in like this as the motor was knocking

Honda Civic - window busted, left it unlocked and they busted the window again rather than checking the doors, left windows down and all kinds of misc bits went missing (shift knob, head rests, etc)

Cadillac Escalade - lug nuts got stolen less the wheel locks, 3 days later it got stolen from my driveway

Range Rover - not stolen but I sold it to a guy who paid in $100 bills, police call a week later and it was abandoned in the bayou (totaled) still registered to me, wish I hadn't of canceled the insurance and I may have been able to claim it stolen and cash in again
