Smile LED Flasher that works with 67-72 Chevy Trucks

All, this last week I went through the process of changing all my bulbs to LED and the flashers too. This should make them last "almost" forever and alleviate blown out bulbs. I have documented the pictures and the process I went through in finding a flasher that actually worked for our trucks. See below, 4th and 5th pics were the one that worked. I got it from Summit Racing part# UPD-90652.

Re: LED Flasher that works with 67-72 Chevy Trucks

I have had issues trying to figure this out all year. I finally crossed the wires on the bottom flasher and it worked!! I am using led flashers from auto zone. I have 4 different flashers and the only thing that worked was crosses the wires on the bottom flasher.

Yep! I went through that nightmare on my AMX. It all worked on the bench but not in the car, finally dawned on me to swap the flasher wires in the car. Polarity matters with LEDs.

I'm sub'd for this. Going to ask a "dumb" question, though - What's the black adapter, or boot, part for? Is that just to make it fit the fuse block? And, is that grounded to your brake pedal?

I didn’t have a boot, I think it’s just a stock photo. The flashers that I’m using now don’t have a ground wire. Just ground wherever you can.

The flasher that have that wire, it is for ground and needs to be hooked to ground. Some others do not have the ground wire, mine don't.

Do our trucks need 1 or 2 of these?

I'm pretty sure you need to use the same flasher for the emergency flashers as well. So they both have to be the same.

I replaced both, one for turn signals and one for hazzards.

There are a bunch of post's on this subject.

Been running these for years. The boot changes the polarity on the flasher. Been there done that.
Make sure all the wires are ran the same. Make sure everything is grounded good also.Always use the grounded flasher's for LED lights and yes you will need 2 of them if you have hazards.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Great info Andy! Just a fyi to all. I have an easy wiring harness in my truck and the polarity on the turn signal flasher is opposite of the hazard flasher. Now that will make you pull hair out wondering why they work on hazard but not turns lol. In a pinch load resistors will work with stock flashers. But im not a fan of the thought of a direct short on purpose 😬

I did mine couple years ago using exact same flasher and exact same polarity orientation. I have the ground wire on mine and grounded it to high beam switch floor bolts.

Re: LED Flasher that works with 67-72 Chevy Trucks

I've got a question about this very subject. Going through the teething pains of switching to LEDs on my 71. I used some Oriely factory replacement relays and they sort of work for the most part. I have tried some "LED Specific" flashers from LMC that gives me all kinds of problems.

The front lights and tail lights blink like normal, albeit slow. However, my side markers don't blink nor do my LED dash indicators. And when the head lights are on nothing works right.

my question is, will these flasher fix all my ailments?

Re: LED Flasher that works with 67-72 Chevy Trucks

Here are some things I have had reported back from customers . Many say that the polarity is opposite between the turns and the flashers. Meaning you need 2 flashers and only one needs the polarity reversed. Usually the turn side. I have included a pic from a customer and fellow board member Mac’s Garage on his solution. He has found a Napa brand flasher no ground strap that works and blinks proper speed. And also an adapter to reverse the one flasher.

That's hard to say since we have no idea what the wiring looks like but if it was me. I'd be buying them and checking all the grounds.

Well it's all new from LMC. Leds, fuse box, everything. I've been chasing turn signal issues with this truck since I got it. I thought that if I replaced it all with new factory stuff then it would fix it all. I was going to replace it all eventually anyways. Even ran new chassis grounds and engine grounds. That fixed my tail light issues but still struggling with the turn signals. We had a good wire guy in my small town but he passed away a while ago. I'm sure switching to Leds didn't help my case though.
