Seriously, I need some help with a guinea pig.

My daughters little Christmas guinea pig is making a coughing/choking noise. Thought he might be having a problem with an almond we let him eat, I go to look some things up about it, and it says almonds can or will poison him. Does anyone here know anything about guinea pigs and can they survive after eating an almond.
Thanks.

Guinea pigs are very susceptable to respitory ailments.

Thanks vectorit, I think the kids might even be able to learn a little from that one.

Yea, that's how I felt, and that's what I, (and the wife) did.

That's what I've been reading a lot of. I didn't realize these little guys were so sensitive, and we're definitely gonna have to be more aware of what he needs. I think we actually need another one just to help this one cause it sounds like they do better with a buddy. Man, what did we get into, first we wanted to make the daughter happy, now we got to make the guinea pig happy.

I'll send you a pm later when I am on a stationary device. I've dealt with them a bit. Though not with almonds. If of were me, I would call a vet just to make sure. If you don't find anything. Coughing could be caused by many things.

Cool, thanks. We gave him a couple pieces of shredded carrots and held the water bottle for him while he drank (he seems to like that), and he stopped the coughing/choking noise, so we're hoping the little guy is gonna be OK.

Cool! Just a fyi. Carrots are good for them but mostly as a treat. To much can cause problems.
