I really like what you've done regarding modifying the shock mounts. The factory set up is such a poor design. If you lower a truck and keep the shocks in the factory position they wear out so quickly.

I drove it around the block for the first time a couple of days ago and the shock mounts, firmer gas shocks, and sway bars have made a huge difference in how well it behaves going down the road and around corners. Still rides good but it doesn't wallow around at all like dad's completly stock truck does.

Yeah, I'll be sure to post some wheelie vids...

It's pretty much all back together and finished but it's not charging properly. I pulled the alternator off and had it tested and it's putting out 14.69 volts. I did change the voltage regulator, I guess it could be bad.

Almost got all the bugs worked out.

It runs a little better than the 6 that was in it.

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Drove the truck up to Greenville tonight to pick up a rebuilt 36hp VW longblock, and when in Greenville you stop to eat at Freddy's. Got 254 miles on it now and I only left it stranded once by not feeding it enough gas... Other than the front being a little too low I'm really happy with the suspension. Even with the stiffer gas shocks and cut front springs it rides great. It's as smooth as stock but it corners flatter than my Festiva on coilovers.

Oh, I've had the heat on a few times too!

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Thanks dudes!!

I've put about 800 miles on it now and it's running great.

Did an oil change, got a new starter, did a compressioin check, and finally got around to finding the correct points/condensor so I changed those out. Compression test was 145,155, and the other six were 150 psi.

A buddy of mine started pinstriping a couple months ago and made me an ornament so I hung it from the mirror.

Glad to see you're out driving, putting down 800 miles is no small jaunt.

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Thanks dudes! I sold the truck last Saturday to a guy from Crossville Tennessee, so if you're in that area keep an eye out for it. I'm working on thinning out the herd again so it needed to go. I've also pulled out my '63 VW convertibles to throw together and sell, and I'm debating on if I want to sell Goldilocks or not. I had got up to 13 cars/trucks last year so I'm trying to get back down to 3-4 keepers.

The next project will be taking a couple of '63 verts and making one good car out of the two. I started tearing down the blue car last night. I'll do a build thread on it in the off topic section once the progress starts.

I first found the red body on craigslist a couple years ago, then picked up the blue matching numbers car from a friend last year.

This was after getting it home and making it roll on a spare frame I had.

The donor car (old pic, the blue C10 and my old Celica are in the background.)

Understand thinnning the herd. Had 13 first generation Camaros at one time. (parts cars).
Down to 3 currently.

If I can toss my vote in , I vote 'keep Goldi' .
Waiting on baited breath to see how the suspension works. Steiner has been influenced by Goldi and wants to park side by side one day

Do what ya gotta do working that magic.

I'll definitely finish building Goldilocks so you'll get to see if it works. Or doesn't work. I don't think I'll go all-out on it like I had originally planned. The Festiva is such a good track car that it'll be faster on the track than the truck would ever be, and if I crash it I'm only out $700 bucks. Just going to build a clean, updated cruiser that still handles pretty good but not worry about chasing lap times like I had originally wanted to.

I've been following this build from the beginning, so I am definitely sorry to see it go! But hey, Crossville is close to me so hopefully the new owner might start a new thread...?!? I definitely understand thinning out the herd though, you gotta do what you gotta do! Congrats.
