It does look very fixable. Sorry about the loss. I can't imagine something like that happening to my beater, let alone a nice truck like yours.

Man, thats definitely gotta be rough!
However, from what I see in the pictures, a little scrubbing, and tearing the old burnt stuff out would probally make a phenominal difference, and reveal that the damage isn't really all that bad

Yep, even with that damage, that cab still looks a lot better that some I have seen people start with. Get some Jack Daniels, relieve you pain for a while, think about it for a few days and then decide.

That is a real drag, but the truck is nowhere near totalled. Grieve for a minute or two and then dive in head first and finish her up. You can do it!

its most definately fixable. a friend of mine has a 71 Cutlass which rhe ran a wire through the firewall for his volt gage 7 had the excact thing happen. I gutted the whole thing out & used simple green. then started the rebuild. its even better now.
at least no one got injured physically. if nothing else this serves as a lesson to all of us to make sure our trucks are safe.

It looks entirely saveable to me. The floor looks awsome.
I think you have to go with "When life hands you lemons, make lemonaid" on a thing like this. Finish gutting the interior (if at all possible.. save that tach dash!) .. go ahead with your tank relocation and put some time in looking at stock and custom interiors. You may just catch a big "I want mine to look like that" bug and the fire will just seem like a little overeager disasembly. Try to make this into an opportunity instead of a crisis. I know the loss sucks.. but it happened -- you can let it beat you or you can bend it to your own ends.

My sincerest condolences on your loss, I would like to offer some assistance in getting the reworking of the interior done. If you will send me the tach dash I will go through it test and restore it for free, however you would have to pay for the parts of what has to be replaced to make it work right again. My thinking on this is that if you have a nice dash cluster waiting to install it will help motivate you to get started on finishing the restoration of your interior. The board members have seen my work and can vouch for it and this is not something I would normally offer for free( no labor just parts, and s/h), but I feel terrible for your loss and would like to help. PM me if you are interested in my restoring the dash cluster for you. Randy

I have a good bench seat I will throw into the cause.

Just curious. I am by no means an expert here. Are you running fuel injection? They require higher pressures and regular fuel line will rupture.

Make a Parts Needed list and we will see what we can discover in and along side our garages. I don't have much but I must have something since I bought a partially stripped 67 C/10 LWB. I have a seat but it is ugly.

Wow thanks for all the support, yes my motor is a TPI swap from a 91 corvette. I have thought and long about it and i really want to save this truck, i just really dont know where to start. One of the first things i want to do is get a rear mounted fuel tank and see if this thing will start. I have seen a couple of the sites and cant really decide where to start. Anyone have suggestions for a rear mounted tank for fuel injection? My front bump pad is toast, basically everything is toast. I am going to take some good pics to show during the day.

I am not 100% sure, but I am almost sure it started at the tank. The wiring was all kind of jacked up. There must have been a short from the sending unit or something. We saw a bunch of wires that were stuck to the metal of the back seat. Here are some day time pics.
Here is the old headliner.  The dash.  I dont think this cluster can be saved. lol  and here is the engine, no damage. Thank god.

That sucks man...sorry to hear. It looks bad, but overall I think it could be fixed. The worst looks to be getting all that melted plastic off the dash, like the radio, dash bezel, and the dash pad.

Man, that really sucks and I feel your pain - I had it happen to me once driving home from the DMV after picking up my new sticker.
My advice to you is to immediately clean the cab up. When you get all the charred stuff out it won't look so bad and it should raise your spirits to see it isn't really that bad. BTW, I'm new here, Howdy, y'all. |
