Cummins are in alot more than just Dodges, look around. It`s an engine company, not a vehicle mfgr. That`s how they got in Dodges, they never made their own.Like Detroits, they can be found in any large truck, even the Dodges before they dropped out of the big truck market. The old Longhorn Dodges had Detroit V16s.Big fuel cosumption was that motor`s demise. One hella powerhouse, though.
On swapping in Detroits:The local Navistar dealer(Grimes Truck Center/Frederick,MD) hosts a truck show of the Mason-Dixon chapter of the American Truck Historical Society in May.A guy with a `69 or`70 GMC K/20 with a Detroit in it is always there.I`ve never gotten to talk to him,but want to try this year. It`s been built for several years.Anyone near enough should try to attend.I`ll work on getting the date.I guess there`s a website.
On a Chevy/Cummins5.9 swap:On The Diesel Page,Brittanic is a guy that did this swap in a CUCV pickup.A very knowledgable and helpful guy.Others there have done this also.I will when I can get my hands on one.Meanwhile,I`m thinking I`ll take the bodt off my`91 Suburban 6.2/4L80E/NP241 and mount a`72 cab & Reading utility body on top and K/30 CUCV axles under that I have laying around.

Re: Cummins Power

hey 67k30...looks like an awesome project you got going here, im actually about to tackle this same project, except instead of moving all the dodge stuff over to a chevy chassis, im going to figure out away to just put the chevy body onto the dodge frame and driveline, seems like less headache but we'll see what happens, ill start a build thread as i tear deeper into my project. thanks for the pics, keep up with the great pics and info. ill be watching this thread close.

Re: Cummins Power

I have considered doing that in my truck, but I think I will get a 4x4 to do that to.

Re: Cummins Power

Hey guys I'm building a 73 4door chevy truck and putting a 5.9 24v 2000 238 hp cummins in it . I bought my mount adaptors from Ford cummins. I had to modify the firewall and build new covers, the back of the motor sets in the cab a good 4 inches.I have a nv5600 6spd which I built a new crossmember for and had to move the crossmember back 12 inches.I had the driveshaft modifyed with a 3" tube on the front part and left the 2 1/2 inch in the rear. I putting a gm 14 bolt in it with a 3:73 gear,if that don't work I will put a 3:42 or a 3:21 in it. I want to make a tilt front end for it ,so if you know anyone that has bilt one let me know.I need picts of how it was done.
I'm building a 74 standard cab anmd want to put a 6.2 or 6.5 in it with a 5 speed for my grandson.

Re: Cummins Power

Well guys this project is on hold currently so if anyone is interested in the motor, tranny or t-case PM me.
My brother wants a newer motor{94-98} and he has to get some body work done, reinforce the frame, and powdercoat it . He's also looking to get a daily driver so this may take a while to complete since he doesn't make a lot of $$$$$. It is still going to happen but it'll take a bit longer than planned .
