Re: Vintage Air

You will have to use one of the custom mount kits, think it is called the genII, to have a smooth firewall, I called them when i ordered my kit, they said you can't have smooth firewall w/just a bulkhead if you use the surefit kit.

Re: Vintage Air

Here's pulley pics per request. You are gonna have to have a double groove water pump pulley and a triple groove crank pulley. The compressor brackets are top notch pieces with A1 fitment.

Re: Vintage Air

I found the Old Air setup much better....it's about the same price but you can use your non-air controller and install dash registers like the stock AC setup. You just have to cut the dash in the center and the two sides for the vents. The firewall can be dead smooth as it all fits behind the glove box.

We saw the setup at the Pickups and Panels show in Farmer's Branch and I was very impressed.

Do you have or can you take pictures of the firewall and a shot of under the pass side? Does it interfere with the pass foot room at all or does it hang very far below the dash?

That's exactly what mine does. I will be reinstalling this evening and the rest of this week. I'll get some pics soon.

Mine doesn't hang down at all. The lowest part is 1 A/C line and it is right against the firewall and it is higher than the factory box cutout still. Very tucked. Hopefully I will be able to get some pics tonite. Tuesday is usally pretty productive for me.

Mine came from here.

Yep, I just found that out myself. It said on Vintage Air's website that Brothers was a distributor. I just figured it was a Vintage Air unit because you know how these bigger car/truck shops don't like to list their manufacturers names most time.

I am interested to hear more about the Old Air setup now that it was tossed in here

Me too

But considering Greenville's summer heat (which starts in early May) it won't be on the "wish list" for long. It's going to be a pain to add it to my truck. I'll need to move the alt to the driver side, I have a mutt of an engine bay, and a non air cab (and I'd like the "stock look.") It's gonna be interesting installing it...

Re: Vintage Air

Talked to a guy there also named Randy. Good guy and knew what he was talking about. He said it would prolly be 3-4 weeks but may be sooner.

On a side note, was it ok for me to post the name of the vendor I used? I didn't think about it until I was driving to work. and don't want to break the rules! I could always go back and edit it if I was wrong.:rulz:

Re: Vintage Air

I bought my truck built ,i have a vintage air flush mount on the fire wall ,with ac and heater hiding under the dash .it uses the org chevy controls and has an extra two vents mounted center attached to dash .BTW cost was 1200 i live in Florida AC is a must for me .

Somethings i want to point out that might be helpful or lets look at the whole story

I have the 3 outlets that are apart of the Chevy dash plus two more aftermarket extras outlets and in summer i have to run the AC fan wide open to get any type of cooling

my truck is a total frame up restore ,its a DD that looks like a show truck all new rubber around doors and windows new felt and carpet ect my point many old trucks (mines a 67 step side )have no insulation in the cab

my next move will be to insulate my cab i think you should consider this as well

i would do this before i installed the AC unit ,also check for leaks around doors and anyplace your cab may be leaking

yes i know i said a lot just to make one point but it really sucks when you need the ac the most it roars alot and you only get 75% cooling after all that money and labor

i hope i have been helpful
good luck

_Dick_

That is EXACTLY what we need to hear in order to make the right decisions and plans for the A/C system of our choice. I was reading that the Old Air system has a stronger force of air coming out the vents, can anyone confirm this?

Lets hear more about your systems guys, the good, the bad and the ugly

Re: Vintage Air

Yes, I can...I have seen and felt both and the Old Air is stronger on air flow. My favorite part is that it can be used without vents UNDER the dash, which I don't like much.

I also like that they are so close to me in case I wanted to grab a part the same day I know I need one....Fort Worth is a lot closer than San Antonio!

Re: Vintage Air

Bowtie - I ordered the "Sure-Fit System" for trucks with factory air. If your truck didn't come w/factory air then there's additional pieces that you would need (ie the a/c controller and the ds/ps air vents). I'm quiet aways from installing it however, I was looking over the installation instructions last night - one thing it states is that the parts MUST be verified within 15 days or they won't be responsible for anything missing. So I'll be doing an inventory this weekend.

Well I bought a bare cab that had air, hope that counts. Just let me know if they give you all the hoses, boxes, etc. Thx!

yeup that counts! Best I can tell the only thing you'll need to round up is the ds/ps round air vents (hoses come with the package) and the a/c controller.

I know a few people from this thread have asked me about it, so I thought I'd mention it in here.
