Thumbs up Last Run Car Show, Ark City, KS Sept. 28 & 29

The 27th annual Last Run Custom Car & Truck Show is Sept. 28 & 29 in Arkansas City, KS. There are usually over 1,000 entries in this show, and a lot of very nice vehicles! Anyone that may be going post here or PM me, as several of us in this area will probably try and meet and park together if possible. Hope to see some of you there, it's always a good show.

I'm planning on showing up on Saturday and hopefully staying part of the evening. Not sure if the 69 will be coming with me or not, depends if I have started pulling the motor out of it by that time. Will you be there both days?

Yeah Mark, I'm going both days. The grand prize this year is a new car trailer, and you have to be present at the awards Sunday and have a vehicle entered and present in order to win. That always keeps all the entrants around. They always have a nice grand prize, as well as other give-aways. Bring your lawn chair and hang out with the gang, truck or not. They sell beer, and have several food venders on the grounds, so we don't have to leave till it's over. I have not heard anything out of Ironhorse for a while, but I bet he has that fresh paint ready to show. Is Jason going to come down? Drecarious (aka Troy) and I talked a few days ago about parking together, along with any other members that might be interested, so we'll see what happens. Should be a good time.

Hey barn, Yukon, Plan on being there at the Last Run that Saturday and maybe Sunday also. Will bring the 4x4 but will not be showing it as it is not what I consider done as of yet. Need to do the bed spray, window tint, stereo and speaker bit. Got to have some decent tunes but the money situation promises to be tight for awhile. barn, would like to check out your tune set-up which we did not get to do at the Winfield meet. Yukon, is the engine swap going your way in the flatbed? Would like to see it at the Last Run, makes it easy to find you guys as it does stand out in a crowd of vehicles. Heh, heh. Any chance of a swap meet at the show? Since the truck is so close to being finished my 16 year old wants to start re-doing the '71 Chevelle SS 350. Plan to see everyone with a cooler in the back of the 4x4 and this time some lawn chairs also.

Hey Ironhorse, good to hear from you. Get that truck finished, he-hee! To answer your questions, my tunes are a Custom Autosound deck (fits original opening, no dash butchering), and Pioneer encased speakers under the seat. Also, there are usually parts vendors galore at this show, but not a swap meet per se. There will lots of stuff for sale, new and used, though. The cruise is not that big of a deal IMO, too many junior idiots and cops. They post off-duty cops in un-marked vehichles to radio in people that do burn-outs, speed, etc. And they are real a-holes about drinking, they love to pass out DUI's in Ark City no matter what day of the year it is. There are usually enough young idiots to keep them busy that weekend though. A friend of mine has a business on the main drag (Summit street), and we usually just go there and park, get the chairs and coolers out, and watch the action.
I have an old friend that lives in Ark City that specializes in Chevelles, restoration, parts, etc. He is also one of the guys responsible for this show, I'll try and get you hooked up with him, he would be a wealth of knowledge for your Chevelle project.

Hey barn, Will be looking forward to seeing you and catching the street action. Sounds somewhat like my old high school days in Wichita running the circuit from Grove and Douglas to the river turn-around and back. Course then gas was 21.9 cents a gallon and five bucks went a long way. Hear the 4 BBL kick in and smell the clutch and rubber burning! The good ol' days, huh?
Then when you launched at the light it was brute force without a DOHC v-6 and 5 spd with a turbo. Progress, huh? Maybe that's why the guys at work think I'm stuck in a time-warp. Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, Hemi 'Cudas, GTO's, Chargers, etc., that's why I like the car shows so much. Brings back some good memories of my mis-spent youth?

Our youth wasn't mis-spent, it just didn't last long enough! Lookin' forward to the get-together, hope some of the Wichita area guys can make it down, the more the merrier!

Fred T, registration is from Friday on, there is alway something going on, and lots for the kids too! Sat. night they have a casino night and auction, Sun. there are nostalgia drags at the Mid-America Dragway west of Ark City, judging and awards in the afternoon. And lots of very nice hotrods!

Hey Jason, nice to hear from ya! Hope all you guys talk a little on here so we keep this towards the top, I know there are some other members in this area that might be interested.

I've been thinking of trying to have a board member meeting on that Sat. at 2:00 PM for picture taking and general confab. If we had something set, it might make it easier for a get-together with everyone present. We had a blast hangin' out at the Winfield show, let's make this one even more fun. What do you guys think? I already have my truck entered, so we could meet wherever I'm parked, I think you all know my truck by now, he-hee!

Ironhorse, not sure if the 69 will be driveable then or not. I've got the 454 nearly ready to be pulled from the donor vehicle. Then I will be cleaning it up and getting it ready for the goodies to go on it. At some point I have to make the jump and disable my 69 for awhile.

My first step with the 69 will be to pull the radiator to get it cleaned and prepped, then do a 2" body lift for potentially needed valve cover clearance (also doing the body lift to line the cab up a little better with the headache rack, oh and maybe bigger tires at some point). Then time to pull the transfer case, tranny and the wimpy 307.

I've got seals for the transfer case, Rockwell T-221 and I'm going to pull all access covers and get them sealed up. I've got the 4 speed tranny that I will be swapping in pretty much ready. Just have to get a couple seals in it and it's good to go.

I'm eager to get started on the 69, but also hate to have it undriveable. But the end reward should be awesome.

Yukon, you might want to check on a new radiator. I bought a new one for less than the radiator shop wanted to repair and clean the old one, and the ol' truck has never run hot since, even with the AC running in this hot weather. Are you going to be able to stay with us for a while in Ark City? I hope some of the Wichita board members make it down, and I saw a post from a guy in Oxford the other day that I've never met, but he's close, so I hope he sees this and shows up.

Tracy, are you working a booth at the show? I know you're goin' racin' Fri. night, so what time do you think you'll make it to the show?

Troy, can you post the street name that runs by the south side of the Agri-business building? Getting a spot on that south end may be our best chance of all parking in the same area unless we meet early Sat. morning. I think it is Washington St. if I remember right.

Has anyone talked to Rays dad lately, he is in Enid, OK and would be interested, I'm sure. I haven't seen any posts from him lately though.

Hi Barn9, Will be there Sat. morning, not sure what time? What time do you plan on being there and where for sure in Ark City. Not that familiar with the town, if you will PM me and let me know just where you will be I plan on being there early mid-morning. Will be wanting to talk to you in regard to your friend with the Chevelle interests. Have most all the parts I need except want to change over to buckets and the "horseshoe" shifter and console.

Yukon, good luck on the 454 into the 69. Sometime down the road I plan on installing a 327 in the 4x4. Have always had a soft spot for the 327.

Would be nice to have several 67-72 trucks in one area. Perhaps have Yukon's big 4x4 flatbed at one end, my 4x4 LWB, barn's 2wd LWB, Blazer Boy's Blazer, a short wide from a friend of mine and perhaps someone would have a short-step to round it out. Don't know of anyone who has a 67-72 Burb. See ya there.

Ironhorse, ane anyone else coming from the North, here are a couple quick ways: From Wellington, go east to Dalton Road, then south to Hwy 166, east into Ark City to either 8th or 7th, 3 blocks north and you are there; From I-35, go east on 166 (same as above), From the north coming in on Hwy 77 you have two choices, (Hwy 77 goes right down the main street of Ark City (Summit Street) just go to Washington and turn right for about 5 blocks and you are there, OR, you can turn right on Kansas Ave. at the northern end of Ark City and go over to 8th street, then south to Washington and take a left for two blocks (this is the way the locals avoid the congestion on Summit-the narrowest main street in this part of the country). Watch your speed on any side streets y'all, the Ark City PD considers itself the second coming of the Gestapo (with an attitude to match).

I'm going to try and make it. My truck in in no way shape or form show material but an unrestored original with a few mods.

Either way, I'm wanting to look at some nice ones for inspiration and ideas on mine.
