I put a carb kit in this Rochester 1 barrel carburetor and it's leaking around the gasket which seals the 2 halves. Is there some type of gasket maker silicone stuff that would stop the leak?

Lower the float level.

Are you guys serious? Is it as simple as that? Mine leaks out the top parts seal and I have a rebuild unit that doesn't run very good that came with a double gasket there...but I didn't leave it on long enough to see if it leaked also. I just figured my gaskets were cheap...

Indeed! Double gaskets is an ate-up solution to a leak, if the float level is too high. That will change the float level, but also the metering rod calibration. Who rebuilt that carb?

You should also make sure that the bowl and horn flanges aren’t warped from too much tightening over the years...old Rochester B carbs are known to have that problem...and don’t just flatten them on emery paper on glass...there is a thin sealing ring that you’ll sand off.

I purchased a new rebuild kit from Mike's, but have yet to install on my 67's B model Roch. Mine is very temperamental when it does leak, usually it's seasonal and hasn't leaked in the past year, yea, strange, hence the carb kit remains in the bag, in the glove box.
