Re: my wife's question

We have a deal.

I don't turn into Fred Sanford, and she does not turn into Imelda Marcos.

Re: my wife's question

22 years for me and my wife, she didn't have a clue about this hobby, a car was a car to her. I had to teach her how to drive while we were dating. My 67 makes my 8th hot rod and she has learned to love them as much as I do, she even made me buy her a 63 Mercury Comet Convertible to restore for her[I hate anything built by ford]. So all I can say is keep her involved, show her that they can be something special and hopefully she will start to enjoy it too.

Re: my wife's question

I have been married for 6 years and with my wife for 8. She was new to everything when she met me. This includes hunting, fishing, farming, and most of all my extreme obsession with cars and trucks. Her family just didn't do any of these things. She is also from San Antonio Texas ( 1.2 million people ) and I'm from Altoona Iowa ( 15,000 people ) which was a big culture shock to her. We have had our fights about my cars but she has really started to come around in the last few years and even wants a 65 Impala convertable for her to cruise in.

Re: my wife's question

It's a healthy balance like all things. I will say if not for my wife, I'd have dozens of "projects" I couldn't finish so that's a plus. Sometimes she leans on me a bit and I remind her it keeps me active and keeps me at home. I can be interrupted and it's no big deal. If I were out golfing, fishing, drinking, whatever then I'd be gone, period.

Re: my wife's question

I buy old iron, she rides horses. I drive my classics to her horse shows.

Been together 9 years, married almost 4. I did get her kinda involved though... she LOVES her 2011 Mustang. 3 years ago she could have cared less what she drove. Put her in a "cute" and fun car...

Re: my wife's question

It's going to be one tough lady that will call me her husband

Trucks are the least of my hobby issues! I have way too many obsessions, sand toys, RCtrucks, guns, archery, beer making, photography, machining, welding, hunting, camping, motorized bicycles, growing things, ect.

" This just aint gonna work" has been told to me more than once

Re: my wife's question

well I am married to a filipina so I get the Imelda Marcos joke. But thats a real shame the people where starving so she could have the latest shoes. But for the first 2 or 3 years she tryed to get me out of the shop. But after she seen what some of her coworks husband were out all night drunk wild women drugs. She did not mind the little piles of junk in the shop.Because she know where I WAS AT when she came home AND DID NOT HAVE TO GO OUT AND FIND ME.Truck is here to stay

I get it, and it seems like a fine compromise. But I must admit, sometimes the inner Fred in me comes outI know when it's time for a dump run when I start noticing shoes I ain't seen before.

As far as the original question, always remember that they're just like rugs. Lay 'em right the first time and you can walk all over them for years! (JUST KIDDING)
Besides, that one can go either way.

Re: my wife's question

I'll be married to my wife 10 years this coming October, been together 16 years. I say I have the best wife in the world. She began putting money away in "the truck account" several years ago so I can do what I am doing. When I talk about cutting a corner or two to save a little money she talks me out of it, she says "you need to build it the way you really want it". She braggs about how the project is coming to her friends and says she always knows where I am (although a drug problem would probably be cheaper). If she wants to talk to me she only needs to go out into the garage because if I'm not hanging out with her, I'm in the garage or at work. Life is great! My wife takes real good care of me.

I too get the Sanford and Imelda reference.

Re: my wife's question

I've got a great wife too. We've been together since 71. She got pissed early on over my first truck but got better since. I've never blown a lot of money on my vehicles so she can't really complain. Family first, always. That's not to say if finances allowed I wouldn't get spend happy if I could...
My 69 pkup has been torn apart in the shop since 96. I work on it when I want to and a couple times a year buy some things for it. I've not been in any hurry. It's a therapy thing. My wife likes trucks. The 06 in my sig is her dd. Yeah I wanted the crew but for our family vehicle. I have offered to buy her a Caddy or whatever she wanted numerous times over the years. She said you buy a Caddy for you to drive not me. She's a country girl, likes her trucks.
she's a definate keeper.

Its a 16 foot wingspan B17and takes alot of time(the reason I am getting out of the hobby). It is very hard to have bth projects in the garage at the same time. I do get paid for the the plane build so I have to finish it first.
When you get it done post a video!

My wife calls my truck "the other woman" this latest phase of engine rebuild and front clip detail took around 8 months of after work and a couple of vacation weeks. I started getting locals driving by and asking if I was going to sell it, so I was getting a little nervous and moved her car out of the garage and moved the other woman in. Now that the custom phase is done I promised her that my time is now hers. I still spend a little time on the truck but I make a conscience effort to let her know that she is most important. The truck was really my therapy, after ten years of marriage I realized that I was not doing anything for myself and spending my life paying bills and working. This was not a mid life crisis but just a little blowing out the cobwebs. Although difficult for her at times, she tried to understand the process. But in the end, she has admitted that she likes the end result. Now I have to get her used to a carburated, uncatalytic convertered, glass packed, no A.C. windows down because it's fun mentality.

Re: my wife's question

I'm the luckiest S.O.B., Together 20 years, my wife is really cool when it comes to old vehicles, always looking for trucks in parking lots, country roads, ect. and interrogating her clients ("so what is your husband going to do with that ugly old truck that doesn't even run?") She helps me move parts, fenders, grills, bumpers, seats and even repaints faded license plates (she's a nail tech.) Talk about supporting my hobbies? she's the one that tells me "if you don't buy it you're going to regret it". Every year she helps me and my C/10 friends coordinating a big truck party and she is Filipina but doesn't go crazy with the shoes and hates shopping(Yes!!!)! I'm the luckiest SOB on the planet and here's some of the trucks she given me the green light on .............
