This is in a Craigs add locally for a 67....
Can't say I've seen one done like this before.

I want that! I love the spare on the fender of the step side, but I don't really care for the step side.

Re: Unusual Fleetside Bed

I've seen one done that way on a Ford. I was told it was a factory option for their camper trucks. I don't have any documentation but it would be a cool conversion for any camper truck.

The ford it was on had a longer wheel base with short rear overhang, no room for spare

This the next year model, has no spare but astro ventilation, and I think it's the same paint code.

Attach an alternator, or remote water or oil pump to the back side of the spare, let the rear wheel drive it, and have less clutter under the hood. With the rat, I'm sure you could use the room.

Great idee, davischevy. If worked out properly, it could probably run the a/c, too.

Hey!

Watch that composition though, Boys.

Re: Unusual Fleetside Bed

I like the 67 bed, it would allow a blazer or burb tank in the back and put the spare in a non valuable bed space region.

Yup, that clears up the age old question of what to do with your spare. AND no climbing under your truck. Just needs a flip down tool box on the rear section with the jack and flares...

It's the same truck.

It must be a pic of when the bed was on a truck.

Look at the "patina pattern", especially the areas that appear black and it's a spot on match.

id like to see a bed like that but with an actual tire in it. maybe a restored truck with that bed. is it custom or did GM actually manufacture it like that for campers?

Re: Unusual Fleetside Bed

you have to remember that back in "the day" they only did mod's for function, never for fashion.
A spare would have been in the way. They "made do with what they had".

I saw a bullet hole in the windshield fixed on a 55 chevy truck one time with a bolt, rubber washer on either side, washer, lock washer, and nut. Kept the rain out. He had to pull the wiper arm off that side, but it was the passenger side, so he didn't care. Fixed
